Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I want Ranch Dressin... not that fat free kind either.
To: Wneighbor
It's probably a part of the strategy in the war of northern aggression. Hey, wait a minute now! I'm a northerner, and even *I* knew that to be wrong!

Right is right and left is wrong...

We natural sprinters don't have to worry about cholesterol. But we'll try the baked kind as well.

I forgot about the gift-giving. I loved that. I liked the part also where Aragorn and Elrond discuss Aragorn's mother. I think that adds light to some of Aragorn's character that needs to be there.
What I'm really anxious to see is..... I want Myranda's boyfriend to come over and watch it. He's one of those people who didn't know there were books. Matter of fact, didn't know it till he dated Myranda.... and that wasn't till this fall. I want to see his reactions. He's really a smart kid.... but from one of those families where no one's encouraged to read or stretch in any way. He makes great grades and yet, even though he graduates high school this year his dad is discouraging college plans and keeps pushing the kid to apply at the factory where he works.
I don't get it.

I'm a northerner, and even *I* knew that to be wrong!sorry Rosie.... but you're not agressin' are you?
To: Corin Stormhands
Right is right and left is wrong... So, Corin, can we say left is left their ever-loving minds?
To: Wneighbor
He makes great grades and yet, even though he graduates high school this year his dad is discouraging college plans and keeps pushing the kid to apply at the factory where he works. I think it's a matter of pride. My step-father is like that in a lot of ways. He thinks my wife and I are "livin' about their raisin'" or trying to be "better" than we are/were.
It's only out of respect for my mom that I don't tell him that his wearing shoes and using indoor plumbing are "above his raisin'."
To: Wneighbor
I wouldn't mind if some of 'em left...
To: Wneighbor
I also highly recommend the Director's Commentary on the movie.... The actors commentary is OK, the Director and writers commentary is excellent!

It's only out of respect for my mom that I don't tell him that his wearing shoes and using indoor plumbing are "above his raisin'.LOL Thanks for that one Corin. This is the first time this daughter has dated a boy I like. He is very decent and respectable. Treats her respectably BUT doesn't let her use him as a doormat. That's even rare today. Great kid. He is book-smart but not only book-smart. And your comment is one that I would definitely find appropriate to use to his dad.
He's not my kid. But as someone who has pulled myself up out of the gutter and gotten to the point where I'm now teaching in college.... I know there is more for him. And he's one that would make a right use of an education.

The actors commentary has good moments once they get going. I am not sure they knew exactly what to say on a commentary at first.... they get on a roll after awhile, but they bugged me the first couple times I turned them on for a few minutes.

.........
I wouldn't mind if some of 'em left... the planet huh?
To: Wneighbor
And he's one that would make a right use of an education. Let's hope he has the sense to ignore his dad.
To: HairOfTheDog
I also highly recommend the Director's Commentary on the movie.... The actors commentary is OK, the Director and writers commentary is excellent! Which disk is that on? I've watched all of disk 3. I just did the play all option. I did 3 completely... and now I'm in 4. So, by the time I get back from lunch --- about 3:30 my time -- I'll be through it all.
Too much to absorb at once though. Will have to go back and review.
To: Corin Stormhands
Let's hope he has the sense to ignore his dad.Well, I'm encouraging him. And doing what I can to help with financial aid info etc. His dad is kicking him out of the house upon graduation. So, he is on his own. I think even if it takes him a year or so to get on his feet, he'll end up furthering his education. But, he really is one of those people that needs some positive adult influences in his life.
To: Wneighbor
I'm off to lunch now... and finish DVD4! Back in a couple of hours. :-D
To: Wneighbor
Glad you can be there for him. Enjoy your lunch.
To: Wneighbor
The commentaries are on the movie disks themselves.
In the menu, you can choose to watch the whole movie with either Peter and the writers, the design team, the production team, or the cast, as seperate views of the film with their commentary over it.
They play the movie at about half-volume and talk over it about each scene as it plays. Kinda like having them in your living room talking during the movie. I haven't watched all of them all the way through yet, the design and production people have interesting things to say too, about how the effects were done as you watch.
