Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You can't argue with success! It is amazing, but a lot of folks who have dyslexia and other LDs do SO much better when they get out of the elementary/secondary school environment. They can relax and take their time without teachers constantly breathing down their necks!
Good for Steve; I'll pray for success in his education!!

Aren't hobbits lactose-intolerant??
To: Corin Stormhands
I was off getting a more extensive nickel tour of this place. It's confusing, but I think I'm finally getting to know my way around!
Just don't ask me to remember any names...
To: Corin Stormhands
Where'd everybody go?I'm looking for a live play-by-play thread on the Senate non-proceedings.

A feeble attempt at humour, Rosie.

I'm looking for a live play-by-play thread on the Senate non-proceedings. There was one the other day, but I haven't seen one today.
To: RosieCotton
Doesn't help that up here, there are LOTS of people with the same last names... That sounds like the south...
To: Argh
I guessed that it was a joke, but I didn't understand what you were getting at! ;-)
To: Corin Stormhands
I haven't either.
To: Corin Stormhands
That sounds like the south...It's probably true of any rural area, I would guess. It's kind of funny, though...you can't go ANYWHERE around here without meeting people who are related to people you know.
To: RosieCotton
The source of the humour was supposed to be absurdity of the temporal incongruity of a recently ballyhooed syndrome, suffered by mythical creatures from thousands of years ago. And it was supposed to be just plain silly too.

(Sorry I hadda make you explain!)

Some PO-TA-TO humor.
An old man lived alone in Idaho. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, Bubba, who used to help him, was in prison.
The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:
Dear Bubba, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.
Love, Dad
A few days later he received a letter from his son:
Dear Dad, For HEAVEN'S SAKE, Dad, don't dig up the garden! That's where I buried the BODIES!
Love, Bubba
At 4 A.M. the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.
The next day the old man received another letter from his son:
Dear Dad, Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. It's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love, Bubba
;-)
To: Corin Stormhands; All
Sorry everyone! I am eating cookies, filling out my sweepstakes for the week and chatting with friends on the phone. Time has just slipped away somehow!
I should be finishing up here soon, so I'll be back on the thread shortly.

Thanks! Getting into the masters program was quite a thrill for him, although he tried not to show it (another male thing, I guess...I would have been bounding all over the house shrieking if something that important happened to me!)
Anyway, he had a spring in his step for a couple of weeks or so after that! He only has about a year and a half...two at the most left to go.
