The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I have found that cupping my hand around my good ear though focuses what I want to hear and blocks out what I don't want to hear...for instance, if Steve is talking to me, I cup my ear toward him to lessen the sound from the TV...I thought these trumpets could be used the same way!

My youngest son, who has never known me without my hearing loss, will cup his hand around his ear when I am talking to him! LOL

2JM: Good question, I would check with the local archery shop/store if one is nearby, or archery club, I'm pretty sure there was one in T-town area. Most will be glad to teach/help a young 'un, they are the future of our sport, pasttime, obsession (depending on your point of view).

Only you know if your child is mature enough to handle a potentially dangerous weapon, bows and arrows can be, and as we all know, age has no bearing whatsoever on maturity. Believe it or not, most cities have ordinances against shooting a bow within the city limits unless on arange, so backyard shooting like I did (and still surreptisiuously (sneaky) do-but only for testing purposes during tillering. Most of us have modified our shooting technique to shoot in basements or garages. Anyway, never too young to start, never too old to participate.

"Sorry, you mentioned something remotely archery related"

No, that is OK, I am interested. If I ever manage to move back to VA, as planned, I will want to take up archery for bow season. As it stands now, I don't have time, but am still interested.

Was it you that was saying that a good hit with a broadhead is more deadly than a bullet hit?

lakes in Kansas are almost like that

Well...I'm not much into water activities, but I do like to stare at lakes, watch the birds and sailboats.

Good morning you guys.

Cool and raining here, I believe that cold front you guys had has finally worked its way through Dade County, or almost.

The wind is north, but the skies haven't cleared yet. I usually expect a northwest wind directly after passage of a front, north normally comes a day or three later.

Gonna look at the weather map, see what's going on.
