The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I never did get around to making your poh-tay-toe soup! Oh no! Really? Maybe when cooler weather sets in I should make up a pot and haul it to Tulsa.

I'm pleading innocent! I've been in Girl Scout training all evening, so nothing I say that reflects on what anyone else said tonight should be held against me, cause I don't know about any of it. That being said, now I'm gonna go back and read tonight's posts! ;o)

OH! I forgot to tell you. When I was at Grama's yesterday I found a mess of turnip greens in the freezer. They're in my freezer now. I was gonna cook 'em today - but I worked.

I think I'm going to grow them this year...they do well in our climate, we have plenty of room to share some with the chickens and the bunnies.
Gonna grow more rutabagas too.
Have we heard from OT at all today? I remember talking to her about rutabagas last year! Just amazing.

Good night all! Here's one of my nightlights for ya.

Good night, Hair!
To: 2Jedismom
They are very easy to grow. I like to pull the turnips and chop turnips in with my greens too.
Also, I like mixing mustard greens with the turnip greens and they grow well in our heat too. If you like 'em you might plant some of both.

I'll give the mustard greens a try too! They are a bit peppery, aren't they?

I don't think I'd call 'em peppery. They have a bigger flavor. But, it's kind of sharp. I like to cook about 3/4 turnip greens and 1/4 mustard. Then in my big cook pot I dice 2 turnips in with the mix. MMMmmmm.

Rose just watched the trailer... she pointed out that this:
