The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

After viewing the trailer several times, I feel compelled to comment on my gut reaction to Theoden's battle cry:
"Ride now! Ride for ruin...and the world ending!"I don't know if any of you have already discussed this, as the posts just moved way too fast for me today to keep up.
But I wanted to say that his cry not only gave me chills and goosebumps...but it durned near brought a tear to my eye.
I tried explaining it to my wife why it was such a moving phrase, and why it carries such weight...but I don't think she quite got it...lol
That simple phrase contained such futility...such hopelessness...such an impassioned sense of "doing what needs to be done, despite the outcome"...just...wow. I was overwhelmed.
I'm not one who's quick to emotion...but I'm thinking I'm going to need a Kleenex Pocket Pack for the theater come late December.
Or, maybe I'm just reading way too much into things....

Hey Wn!!! How's tricks?
Hair would know of the neighbor-that-hell-refused.
Oh, BTW hair: we're gonna have to claw Dad down off the ceiling here pretty soon. *that* neighbor is talking now about putting in a septic system, of course it is *uphill* from the well, and of course there's the "extra" burden on the groundwater problem we already have. Dad's gonna have a kniption fit (perhaps not entirely without merit). This is going to get far worse before it is over, and I have a pretty good idea that Mr. Sloan, Esq. is going to be brought into the picture pretty soon. [sigh]

I guess that means backgammon is allowed now! you're just lucky you're playing background with my HTML mentor. Otherwise, I might have to make you wait till tomorrow. BUT, SHE deserves a treat, because of all her hard work at training me. So, go play. But, you have to let her win tonight.
