Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Wow...just finshed reading most of the thread about the Smoky Backroom" with Tribure 7 and the gang...so does this happen often? Why are they so hot and bothered anyway? Lively past couple of days with Trib7, Destruction or whatever his name is... and then there was Discosta with his dating issues.
To: mstar
Not very often! - They are so few we know them by name!
Mostly life is quiet and sometimes even dull!
To: HairOfTheDog
quiet with the potential for dull sounds great...
I guess I shouldn't be, but I am always amazed when people who, when if they choose to, should "only dislike 'Rings' and leave it", instead hate it, spending a great deal of energy in doing so. There must really be something within the work spiritualy, as we all have been saying, to cause a reaction like that. LOL!

Had one of the '97s for a while and conducted a few experiments with it. Fire control under full bore mode was quite remarkable. The Winchester 97 ended the career of the double barrel shotgun as a police or military weapon. The Moro and the Germans learned the hard way about catching buckshot.
The Winchester 97 was a classic, but the Winchester Model 12 was the Rolls Royce of pump shotguns. Just a marvelous piece of craftsmanship and elegant design.
I was introduced to the Model 12 when I was prowling a small-town gunshop near Marl's place. In a rack of beat-up used "farmer's" shotguns was one with a barrel much shorter than the rest. I looked down, and saw a "52" painted in white on the bottom of the pistol grip. A little voice in my head whispered, "RACK NUMBER! MILITARY OR POLICE!".
I took it from the rack, and it had all the proper military markings intact, including a large "U.S." on the receiver. It was a Model 12 riot gun, which lacked the handguard and bayonet lug that a trench gun would have. It might have been carried by a MP, or used to guard some defense plant back home in WW2. It was well used, but the price was fair, and it became the base of my small-but-modest collection of US miltiary shotguns.

Well, I'm off to bed. Luke's toys are talkin' to me. I just heard Cookie Monster say in the living room "Play it again." (toy saxophone).
I think the dog stepped on it. Yeah, that's my story.
g'nite all.

Good morning, good morning! Well...one of my best friends is now a Mrs.
I'm still getting used to the idea.
To: RosieCotton
I dated a guy for years and years...like four years, long distance. Finally I moved to Austin to be near him and he married someone else just a couple of months after I moved there.
I never had the heart to tell the girl that I was "the other woman"...I figured she had a hard enough future without that.
He did introduce me to her at a race. (We were both runners.) She had taken up the sport to please him and really gave it her best shot.
I used to flash by her when I was running, finish my race, get an oj, stand around cooling off and wait like 10-12 minutes for her to finish...then cheer for her as she crossed the finish line. I'd smirk at the guy the whole time.

But it took me years to get over it...
Thankfully Steve came into my life pretty soon after that.
