The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Let's say, yeah, I'd wear a little red dress for this someone. But I didn't at the time. Of course we were involved in a homeschool group, knew each other from the age of eleven, and were highly scrutinized by the mothers... but I can wish it had been otherwise.

And now of course I'm old enough that if it is possible, I'm free to pursue it.

Ah. My friends' wedding is third Saturday in August. Agh! I have nothing to wear, all my dresses are too dark or white! Shopping! And I have to find time to get my hair done. Is it ok to take cameras to weddings?

"What a man!"

Except that those bags are probably filled with Faramir's weekly amount of empty beer cans, several cases, no doubt. He looks a little hungover in the picture anyway.

Was I just getting up? - Or just sitting down? ;~D

"You know Sam, for a couple of geezers like us, I don't think it matters anymore...;-)"

I think you're right, Corin. I can't drink near as much as I used to, but, OTOH, I think I enjoy and appreciate it more :-)

Who was it that said "I don't do drugs anymore 'cause I get the same sensation from standing up really fast?"

I still don't have a clue what I'm gonna wear to my friend's wedding on Saturday. It's followed by a contradance, so anything too dressy won't work. Ugh.

Those look scary! I'd break an ankle. Hmmm... perhaps that could work...

No, I'm going to be wearing light floral something, I guess. It's an afternoon wedding. Low-budget at a guess. What the heck do I get for a gift?

And apparently, the stockings are a good idea too, says Sam.

Just change at the next party, Jen, that's what my daughter always does, she takes a change of clothes with her, for that.

Every age is scary in its own way...as well as fun.

For God's sake woman! Let him know!!

At the absolute worst you'll be embarrassed for the better part of an evening, and then heartbroken for a few months and then you'll move on. It's better than living a lifetime never knowing "what if"...

I should know. I was madly head over heels for a girl that had no idea how I felt. I agonized for months about whether to make a move... I risked losing her as a friend and I didn't want that... but finally I resolved that I had to know if there was any chance for us... I had her over for dinner one evening and I pretty much cut my heart open on the table and let her know how I felt. She squashed me like a bug and I haven't seen her since, and all my relationships since then have failed.

OK... so maybe that wasn't a great example...

Worked for Marianne in Sense and Sensibility!

On the other hand, that relationship didn't exactly work out...so I dunno!

Hmm. That is less than inspiring... but I haven't seen this guy in four years. And - um, imagine Victorian society, how decorous the girls were supposed to be? That's the general idea in this circle...

But it is very tempting... too bad there won't be dancing at this wedding, I think they're Baptists.

I think most of us fall in love alot. Mostly to no avail, though it's always fun, and often painful. But sometimes it pays off. I reckon.
