Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hullo everyone! (Pinging both the HH and Spoilers lists) - Rick aka 300winmag sent this, and I can't explain it any better! - I think it is a great idea for those of you who may want one of these knives for yourself in addition to the ones we are buying for the platoon in Iraq.... (see background at the bottom if you don't know what I am talking about)

Put your thinking caps on for what we should engrave them with for the troops! - I think it is important to be succinct though! ;~D

Do you have a ping list for the HH folk? I was talking to WN, and decided, based on the response so far, to offer the HH folk the same pocket knife we're sending to the troops in Iraq.

Anybody who wanted one could contact me [300winmag] by freepmail, and pay by check or PayPal. This money would go directly to me [300winmag], and be apart from the funds WNeighbor is collecting for the platoon. I asked WN to handle the other funds, because that way I have no way of knowing who sends how much or how little. Every single HHD will be mentioned in the "cover letter", though, contribution or not.

As close as I can figure it, $22 will cover the knife, and priority mail. If the knives CAN BE engraved, they WILL BE. So everybody should put their thinking caps on, because I don't have a clue as to what should go on them.

If you approve, I'd appreciate it you ping the list, and explain it to folks. I'm really just a middleman on this.

If nothing else, we'll be making our own Hobbit Hole collectible.

Ecurbh, your photo gallery and diary pages on the care packages project are gorgeous BTW! You are the coolest guy I know! It seems you are organizing it under the Flat Frodo section, is that so people would find it from the Flat Frodo section when we 'go public' with that? - I think that is a fine idea...

Click my profile and tell me if the pictures load pretty quickly.... Comcast is giving me space at snapfish for free, the interface is identicle to York, and I am testing to see if the links hold up.... if they do, I will quit York for my snapshot storage... York is wanting me to actually buy something soon or they are gonna delete me.

The only problem with letting York delete me is it will kill all the links that are mine in the spoiler thread, and our header pic at the top of this thread. I guess if we are moving soon we don't have to stress about that, but I would need to move all the pics from the spoiler thread and make some kind of a patch post for the vital ones that would be lost otherwise.
