Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Or, would it not be cool if we could have a big "Welcome Home from the Hobbit Hole" banner printed up if we knew of an arrival location?

It's all over Norway. They even sell it at train stations to go with coffee to warm up. It's like a thick hot pudding. VERY good.... not like lutefisk at all.

[stomps foot!] Why would I still have to go to the mailbox now? From here on out it's just bills! - can wait till the next payday.

[hands on hips] Don't you have bills coming in every week that have to be paid? you don't want to get your finances in a bind and miss entmoot.

Hi all. Lazy afternoon. Went to the wedding, but I got nauseous on the way. No, weddings don't make me sick. But I got donuts and fresh fruit for the Mrs. birthday breakfast. That's all I had and then went out and mowed the yard. Still kinda queasy, but I'm over the mfume part...
So, I made it thru the wedding, but the Mrs. went on to the reception without me. I tried to rest here, but had little success until she got home and could keep Luke away. Not gonna be the birthday dinner she wanted, but we ate out last night, so we'll be more casual tonite. Luke wants to take her to King's Dominion. I told him I'd take him tomorrow.
Wedding was nice. I didn't know the couple and didn't remember her name until the minister said it (we know the parents from choir).
But I had to shake my head at how our society has lost any sense of manners. There were babies there. Okay, so some brides don't mind that. But when one mom was taking her baby out another guys cell phone went off. And it didn't just ring.
It played Beethoven's Hymn to Joy (Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee). The music was appropriate for a wedding. Just not quite in that context.
I never want to be important enough to not be able to turn off my cell phone.
Also had to put out a couple of "fires" at the pool. Got a call from an irate Mom (she's a heavy drinker and is PO'd that we didn't hire her son to be manager). But she complained that the diving well was closed. I went there and talked to the manager who had just arrived for her shift. Our chemical guy had done something this a.m. and the water was cloudy. Chlorine levels were okay, but the water just wasn't clear. So, they closed the diving well for visibility reasons. Standard practice. A man complained that he thought the rule shouldn't apply to adults. I told him when he was President he could change the rule.
THEN the lady who runs the snack bar called and said the $200 order of ice cream was melting because our snack bar isn't air conditioned. She wanted me to run out and buy dry ice to put in the cooler. I declined.

Well, yes, some days the Hobbit Hole is very exciting!!! One of the dangers of the HH, and FR in general. I don't know how many times I've caught myself stifling a cheer or guffaw. People think I'm weird enough without hearing something like that from my cubicle.

People think I'm weird enough without hearing something like that from my cubicle. Yes, I wonder about the people in the faculty hallway at work when they hear my laughter. And I wonder about my neighbor's who I can hear drinking and carrying on in their back yard right out my window. But, when it gets right down to it. I prefer our nice clean kind of fun and companionship! and it is exciting some days. Especially for 2J!
You know, 2J gets all that excitement because she's got such a giving heart for EVERYONE!

Corin, I am so sorry your day got yukked by your tummy. I hate it when that happens.
And I agree about the manners. (am i still old-fashioned?
But, I went to one really really bad wedding last summer with Myranda. It was one of her former asst. youth pastors. He was marrying a lady from another AG church in Waco. So, the wedding was at the bride's church. The pastor there called the bride the wrong first name!!!! And it was her pastor!!! And she and her family were regular faithful attenders - not occasionals. The name he called her was another name that was close to hers beginning with the same letter but, hey, he needed an index card or something to get it right! I was so embarrassed for them.
The poor man was old.... but he was doing the ceremony.

perhaps we should go help them rid themselves of the ice cream.
After all, it's 7:28 and the temp here is still 104. I deserve ice cream.
