Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Letter from the Chaplain!
As you know, I have been sending your comments as you get your flags to the chaplain. Apparently he used them in a briefing! Unfortunately, I don't have powerpoint!!!
Kim, As I've mentioned, I brief a Thought for the Day (attached - I hope you have Power Point) at many of our briefings throughout the week. Today, the Thought (with my Assistant in the background) was the forwarded comments from the HH supporters. Man, where do I begin? One of the 10th Chaplains got here a few days ago. He won't be here where most of the Renegades are located. He was a friend from Chaplain's school. I was completely humbled and honored by the link. I showed the link to him and told him about the HH and how much of a blessing the whole thing had been to me and my soldiers. I told him to start making contacts with folks who could support his soldiers.
I wish I could take credit for the flags. One of our great soldiers really headed up the ordering the flags, flying them, printing the certificates, mailing, etc. He lit and kept the fire under my backside going! I just helped. I'm thankful I had an opportunity to lend a hand and to be a part of Operation Gratitude. This soldier really benefited from the Power House (shaving cream, snacks, etc.) and thought it was important that we said thanks.
Thank you! I wish I could express how much of a blessing it's been to me and my fellow Renegades. Regretfully, I can't. I hope for a moment when you received the flag and read the certificate you (and all of the great Americans of the HH) experienced what we experienced many, many times. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you most of all for your prayers. Above all else, they have been the sustaining power for me and the Renegades. Please continue to pray that all of the Renegades (and other TF Devil soldiers of course) make it home. Pray for our families back home; specifically that the reunions would be gentle mergers and not head on collisions (as we saw 13 months ago at Fort Bragg).
Humbled, Honored, Blessed, and Grateful,
Chaplain, Logistics Task Force 307

And concerning the new webpage...
Kim, Wow! How cool is that?! This is really, really neat. I am very humbled that someone (a very talented someone) would invest the time and effort to put these pages together. I'm very grateful and extremely blessed!

and learning grammar in the 1950's- all "wiff" the Wash DC dialect. Doesn't that drive you nuts?!?! When I worked for the association in DC (after I was fired/re-hired) the boss brought in a "consultant" to edit our writing and basically be Chief of Staff. He was retired navy, then retired business...a crusty old SOB. And everything he wrote or re-wrote was right out of the 1940s and 50s. He would take a 2 paragraph letter and turn it into four pages of prose...and the boss loved it.
We had numerous run-ins.

You know, it's probably too logistically complicated (maybe not?). But how cool would it be to have Flat Frodo standing under one of those flags at HQ?
To: Corin Stormhands
You want to send Frodo to Kandahar? - Heh..... too funny!

I would be VERY cool! But I don't think we could do it before the chaplain comes home...and still get it back...
I don't think...

It would be cool for us. But 1) I wouldn't really want to risk sending Frodo overseas and 2) Sending 'em care packages is one thing, having them participate in our insanity is quite another.
It was just a thought. But not a vey series one.
To: Corin Stormhands
I suspect they would love it. But you may be right. Like Steve said...the guys in the helicopter may love it that I wave at them...or they may just be flying over to see a crazy person.
Sigh...
He's always so upbeat and encouraging...
