The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Morning, I'm up too.

Made a new rule for this morning. Must do something to pick up around the house before sitting down to freep.

Picked up stuff (and with no one else here there ain't much) and then cooked Smeagol her egg (she hasn't had one since the week of the funeral she might o' been feeling unloved.)

you know that now we will expect at least one silly thing today to prove to us that you've really been in silly class.

afterthought: wonder if your powers-that-be knew that you have your own personal silly-trainer-guru every day when corin logs on?

*watching for the axe now*

You wimmin would ruin him with this finishing school, you know. ;~D

Gee, I thought you knew me better than this..... all I intend to do is realign his PC brain. Nothing me.... matter of fact, if anything, I'd be quite encouraging to many of his "unfinished" traits.

BUT, I love this one! I think this is a wonderful opening line!

"Mike Hardware was the kind of private eye who didn't know the meaning of the word "fear," a man who could laugh in the face of danger and spit in the eye of death--in short, a moron with suicidal tendencies."

Friday AND troll satisfaction! It is a good day. Enjoy it.

I'm fixing to take and inventory of the things I've purchased to send my s-i-l and try to round up some boxes.

Just the usual suspects, but here's a Troll Thread.

Didja see our President at the press conference with Blair?

"Mr. President, do you take responsibility for what you said in your SOTU address?"

"I take responsibility for authorizing our military action in Iraq." (that's a paraphrase, he said it much better)

Dang, I like that man.

LOL!! Good morning! I'm laughing already...a good sign.

Still, I feel bad about Ruthy, bless her heart. I hope she's doing ok.

I wonder if MBY got her flag? I haven't heard.

I didn't see or hear that clip. But I did hear the one where Blair apologized for the burning of the Library of Congress back in 1812. That was pretty funny.

I haven't heard from you guys about the flags yet...let me know when you get them...the chaplain asked that I make sure no one is accidently overlooked...so keep in touch with me.

Thought I'd prime the pump this morning. Maybe a little liquid breakfast is in order.

Hope you're feeling better and things look brighter this a.m.

Ok, a quick debrief. The course was "Technical Writing Skills" and the instructor was a pinch hitter. He found out at the very last minute that he was going to teach the course, and that is a very difficult position to be in.

The course was full of coworkers- extremely egotistic engineers and scientists who live for the thrill of pointing out someone elses' mistakes. Unfortunately, I get caught up in that game very easily.

The instructor had no experience in any technical field. He was a business guy. He knew corporate-speak, not techhie-talk. Chemistry, physics, math- it was all Greek to him (teeheheehee). The sharks smelled blood and went to town on the guy. I felt so sorry for him that I didn't have the heart to write out my critique of the class on the evaluation.

Add to the mix a woman who has a voice like shattering glass and a desperate desire to be the expert on something. She's an accountant who thinks she's a ballistician. She was hired as a secretary, but changed her job description to that of a scientist. Yes, she knows how to use MS Word, but she doesn't know how to use English. She doesn't understand the technical material well enough to offer usable suggestions for improving the writing. The class was a non-stop narrative of MS Word advice, stories about being an auditor, and learning grammar in the 1950's- all "wiff" the Wash DC dialect.

So, you want me to say something silly to prove it was a silly class?

Muahahaha. How's this?

I'M SO GLAD TO BE BACK IN MY OFFICE!!!!!!!!

Wasn't so bad!

I have been trying to find some kind of summary for what I am doing today.... I am going to listen to a court hearing. The case is complicated.

My friend's boyfriend is an attorney for the Building Industry of Washington, and he is arguing a suit brought to change the wording of a ballot title regarding water rights.

It seems last year, there was 'good' legislation passed regarding water rights, and some enviros didn't like it, so they are trying to put a referendum up that will repeal it...

I am paraphrasing, but the ballot title they want is something like "Shall Dept of Ecology be prevented from protecting water quality?"
