Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I absolutely loathe shopping. Therefore, I don't ever want to even look at clothing. But, thrift store browsing is fun. Like a mini-way to win that lottery ya'll were talking about. When you find something you like for thrift store prices you feel like you won.
Good thing is, even my youngest daughter that just left home likes to buy her clothes there. It was always a great afternoon or Saturday for us to check out all the second hand places.
Older daughter is too uppity though. She likes Dillards way way too much.

I think it would be a very very good thing too. I've had a few nice working vacations over the years. You get stories out of those. They probably do something wholesome like build character too. But, I don't want to think about that right now.

Lord.... My landlord just called. It seems the county noxious weeds people saw ONE tansy plant growing in my pasture and called them to find out if we needed help with an eradication program.
I am so dreadfully embarrased...
But ONE plant? - I even know where it is.... I saw it yesterday in the corner and thought - wow Tansy - I should go cut that down. But I got distracted. The county called about one Tansy plant. I live in the territory of a perfectionist noxious weed enforcer.

Sent her an email. We'll see... Good grief Ramius. CALL the woman! I went back to check. Your sister's post also definitely said, "Call Lisa." Hello!

Sounds like some of those old, brain dead hippies I saw digging in the trash bins outside my hotel in Berkley, Ca. when we visited there last summer. Husband had to work at University Of Claifornia, Berkley. The guy was fresh off the downtown streets with their crappy "We Hate Bush" tee-shirts and various other trash.
I refused to eat at any of the resturants down there...ate at the hotel.

I gotta get outta here too. G'nite all.
To: HairOfTheDog
WHY do you have to get rid of a tansy plant? There is a law about them there? Sometimes we grow them on purpose here. Can you dig it up, pack it and mail it to me?

You're kidding! They narc on you for weeds? Well, these are noxious weeds. And really bad news. Systemically toxic to livestock, which means, they have a lifetime limit that builds up in their body from eating it. Good news is horses hate it unless they have nothing else to eat, but it is still bad news. Cows love it, and it spreads easily.... I know I have to eliminate it, and I must say, they eradication is working, there is much less Tansy in the area than there was ten years ago. But jeepers! - I just noticed this plant yesterday! And it is in the place that was mowed last month.... That thing sprung up overnight and the chick busted me.
To: Wneighbor
I doubt they grow this kind of tansy there.... Tansy Ragwort? - Lethal to livestock. see above. Yes, they are outlawed. I could probably grow pot in the pasture and not get noticed, but not tansy! ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
So what's the penalty? Do you have to pay a fine, or is it just a warning to cut it down ASAP or else?

Oh, I gotta tell you one short story before I go to bed...
This evening, I was sitting out in the back yard watching Steve weed the garden. He was moving slowly through the garden on his hands and knees, just weeding away. Well, gradually...I noticed that all the chickens were with him...just walking along side him, scratching away! I hollered out "Hey Steve, the chickens think you are scratching and they've joined you!" He laughed but it was really obvious that they thought he was just one of the flock...they followed him all over the garden!
Then the buff Orpingtons apparently got tired of it all and decided Steve would make a good ride! They hopped up on his back (he was crawling around weeding, you know) and roosted (didn't just stand but settled down) on his back! Rode around for a long time on his back!
Steve got a huge kick out of it.

Oh they will first try to 'help' me learn to manage my problem (I am so embarrassed!). If you don't take care of it they will seek permission to spray or pull it for you, and if you dont give permission they can probably get permission anyway. They really just want rid of it in the county... I am going to call her tomorrow (she left her number) and tell her that I pulled it up. I bet she comes out to check! ;~D
I think it is hysterical.
To: ecurbh
No, I didn't...I wish I had, but I was just too lazy. I just sat in my lawn chair and pondered my amazing life!
