Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The buff orpingtons are English birds...originate from a country friendly to us.I wonder what kind of chickens were used in the Shire scenes in FOTR? I'm too lazy to dig out my DVD right now and look. Maybe you have movie star chickens in your orpies.
It looked like the hobbits had half-sized everything, including chickens, pigs, dogs, and ponies. They could have made a fortune selling them as exotic pets to the "big folk".
OTOH, hobbits would probably not be too eager for "big folks" livestock that was twice the size of what they were used to.

Did I tell you I was seriously considering ducks? - I would love to try, but I am just not completely sure I could train the dog not to eat them.... Maybe, maybe not... Gidget does hold back on the bunnies now because I have told her no, but she quivers.... she'd like to go.... - and now, after the bunnies, I guess I have to consider that the cat still has it in him too. Try geese. They are big and usually ornery, especially the gander. Of course, they might even try chasing the horses. :)

Of course, they might even try chasing the horses. :) And myself! It might chase me too! - Prisoner in my own home! ;~D
- I have considered that geese are kinda funny and might be good! Down at the marina where we kept our boat growing up there was a big grey goose named Gandalf... I think it would be fun to repeat that. But on the other hand.... I don't have big bird poop all over the top of my haystack now, or the porch, or all over the yard.... and I guess they would be coyote bait. Easier to catch than the bunnies.

Bear, about "League": what I did not like were some of the changes to familiar characters. For example, Hyde as "The Hulk" was just not what I wanted to see. And Captain Nemo was waaay too Indian. Yes, I know he's really Indian, but you don't know that in 20,000 Leagues. He appears to be, well, European. The vampire chick was too overdone with special effects - though having vampires excited by human blood is good. But most vampires, if I recall my lore correctly, do not bleed themselves...
I did really like Tom Sawyer grown up, and could not believe I guess the identity of the bad guy, working on so few clues. The literary in-jokes were great, too. And they really set the stage for a sequel, no doubts there.

Good morning Jen! - I am up!
How was your night on the town then? - You went to a movie right? - Get in anything that could be called mischief?
To: HairOfTheDog
Nope! We had dinner, saw a movie, and went to Borders for an hour. I did get a call from my parents around 11 wanting to know why I was out so late. I told them they hadn't set a curfew and I was home before midnight anyway.

I'm a bit annoyed this morning. There was a glitch in my hard drive partioning, and most of the data was corrupted, destroying many GBs of mp3s. I have most of them archived on CD though, so its mostly just an annoyance of having to copy everything back to the drive. I guess there is a silver lining though, because there were quite a few I downloaded and never listen to, so it will be nice to have those cleaned off in one swell foop.

FodoCam? Hmmmm, I think I need some caffeine.

What's that hangin' on the wall behind you?
To: ecurbh
Corruption from your own computer! - Such betrayal..... sorry...... swell foop housecleaning is a healthy thing in that circumstance...
What the heck is that? - looks like the guts of an eaten up cassette tape!

It's a red and blue pom-pon thingie that I got at a pep rally during the Arizona Wildcats' 2001 run to the championship game, in which we got cheated by Duke and bad reffing. Not that I'm bitter about it, of course. ;~D

Ahhh I see! Well.... that can't be your only decor... You've got to get your posters unpacked.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah, that's on the agenda for this weekend. (Meaning my weekend, Tues-Thurs.) I got one picture up in the hallway.
Working on my photo site today. Check out the Gallery:
