The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

No, its a Carb Solutions bar. Not that great, actually, but Walmart was out of the Atkins bars, which are much better. I think I need to have blackberries and cream.

I had blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. I don't get cream or ice cream.

So, I'm going to bed since I'm getting hungry again.

Good evening! I made a GREAT supper! Well, really kinda plain, but that's what I do best you know?

I bought a chicken...you knew that. I put it in the rotisserie and while it was cooking, I made another loaf of bread using my rapid cook setting on my machine. Then I made a cheese cake for dessert, warmed up a can of corn.

The chicken cost me $3. The bread was made from flour I bartered for with the neighbor, she got one of my organic eggplants in exchange. (she's Italian...she'll cook it up nice!) The cheese cake was a Jello mix one that my mom gave me. The corn cost 29 cents from Aldis.

It was so cheap!! But it was so good! My kids felt like they were having a feast! Everything was perfect...the bread was fresh-baked and still very hot, it came out of the machine about 5 minutes before the chicken was finished cooking. The chicken was delicious and Steve (who normally doesn't go for mixes) ate two pieces of the cheese cake!

Top it all off with icy cold glasses of milk from the new fridge and it was a perfect meal!

AWESOME! Glad to hear ya'll had a good one.

I had a half a tomato left from lunch, some slices of cucumber and a baked tater. Then I had a bite size chocolate mint candy thingy. (I bought some for my littlest grandaughter last week and she gave me one. *snif* i miss her)

Taters are good for you! Fills you up...gives you energy!

We harvested our potatoe patch this last 4th. My parents came over with some steaks and we grilled them on the Road Grill. Then we all went over to the tater patch and everyone sat around and watched (under the tarp I put up earlier) while Steve forked up the potatoes and the boys dove in and fetched them! In one 4x4sqft bed, where we planted about 16 potatoe pieces, we got a half a bushel of potatoes! All gorgeous, not a bit of rot or a bruise on any of them.

It was a good year for potatoes this year!

Matthew checked on the chickens a couple of hours ago and found them all in one nest box sleeping. All four!

Good night, hair...I'm hitting the hay too.

Well, it's nothin' fancy, that's for sure. But it was mighty good!

What I love is how my kids just rant and rave over my cooking and it's really nothing at all! I mean, how hard is it to wash a chicken, tie it up in some string and stick it on a couple of spits to rotate around?? Still, Joshua has declared I make "the BEST rotisserie chicken...the BEST!" Ha ha!
