The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Morning!

Been away at a workshop. Was very useful but not for the reasons advertised. It was the most effective use of Socratic method I've ever seen, so it was absolutely fascinating. Of course, I'm waaaay behind on reports and stuff, so I don't know if I'll be around much.

Hope you have a great day!

Good morning!

I made bread for breakfast! Actually placed everything in the bread machine last night and timed it to start making at 3am! By the time Steve got up at 6am, he had hot fresh-baked bread for breakfast!

Thanks for the half-welcome, Hair! LOL

Corin, I'll most certainly check out that CD...thanks!

Ramius, if we do end up going, we've already said we'd Hotel it, so no worries there.

Suzi, the initial plan is to stay in-state, just move more north. My daily commute into Providence is starting to get annoying, plus most of my family is about an hour away. While I like the seclusion of living in South County, it's just too durned far away from everything.

Other than that; Hullo! Good morning!

I made some really good Raisin-Pumpernickel last week! You can't do the timed thing when ya gotta add fruit, but I love the timer option for other recipes. Nothing like the smell of a fresh loaf of bread first thing in the morning!!

I have an Aunt and Uncle who live in N. Providence. It is REALLY crowded there! The lots are small and the houses are just jammed in together. I don't know if it's that way all through N. Prov., but they live just off Mineral Spring Rd. and it's packed where they are. How about up by Lincoln, or were you going to stay S. of Providence?

This morning was the first time I did the timer thing. Talk about EASY!

It was delightful to wake up to that aroma! I went in the kitchen and found Steve had turned off the machine, but didn't take the bread out! He was out in the front yard pulling sand burs and I said "Why didn't you get some fresh bread?" He said "I didn't know I could!" He thought it was for some special occassion or something! LOL

I have found that an electric knife works great on fresh hot bread...doesn't smush it like a plain knife. Finally, a use for that electric knife I've had since Steve and I got married! I bet I haven't used it 4 times. It's like a brand new knife!

LOL, you couldn't pay me enough to live in North Providence, Pawtucket, Riverside, Olneyville, or South Providence.

We're looking at Scituate, Smithfield, Warwick, Foster, or Coventry.

The kicker is, my brother just got a 4 bedroom duplex in Esmond (Greenville/Johnston line) for only $800 a month! With a basement!

LOL...I've already had three very boring orc-filled meetings, and have another one at 10.

There are a lot of days where I envy my wife and the fact that she stays home. lol

Try a pawn shop!

Or at least a "Scratch and Dent" shop...

Very much so DT. I'm thinking there is going to be less questioning about the elf's acting abilities as people begin seeing this and other movies too. I thought he did a good job although, Depp was terrific.

As soon as I get the fridge paid off I'm gonna have to buy a new dryer...

Is there a Sears Discount Appliance outlet in the Tulsa area? We've gotten ALL of the new appliances we have had to buy over the last 5 yrs. from our local place. They have every appliance you'd ever need, in every price range. Some are new with scratches or dents, usually in a place you won't see it, but damaged, nonetheless. Sometimes they're marked 'used' because they were delivered to folks' homes, but were dented or scratched in the process of delivery, so they remained in the home until a new one was delivered. Then the old one was brought back to the store, but it is technically 'used'. We have saved hundreds of dollars buying our appliances this way!

Call your local Sears store and ask if there is one of those outlest stores in your area.

I'm setting out breakfast this morning with a very heavy heart my friends.

Yesterday, I found out that there is a 50/50 chance that the corporate office may be closing my office and asking my boss to work from home sans secretary, so I may be out of a job. Just to place this in perspective, I am the sole provider of my household. My job pays all of the bills and takes care of me, my mother, and my two kids. This is horrible!

And just when I thought I couldn't cry anymore, my youngest sister Roxy just sent me an e-mail informing me that her puppy Minerva was dead when they woke up this morning. She was the Neo Mastiff that was bought to replace the Neo Mastiff, Tiny, who was stolen, who was purchased to replace their Rottie, Leavenworth, who had died of old age. This is the 3rd dog they have lost in less than 4 months.

They don't know why she died. She was just on the floor, cold and stiff, with her head resting on an untorn plastic bag. It looks like she just fell asleep and never woke up. Maybe it was just a birth defect or something, but it doesn't really matter, does it?

I'm so depressed. I spent most the night crying and my girls wouldn't go to bed until after midnight, so I hid in the bathroom.

So, I ask that you remember me in your prayers because I really feel like I cannot take much more. I'm at work today waiting to hear the final decision regarding my job and I'm trying to stay positive. No more crying, dagnabit!!!

*DEEP BREATH*

Let me get some food on the table.
