The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I graduated from high school there in 1981. I literally shook the dust off, went off to college and really never went back. I guess I have been there 2-3 times in the last 22 years, for funerals, mostly...friends of my mom's.
Nobody ever even missed me. Two years after I left (I had graduated, you know) my high school Sunday school teacher sent me a card inviting me to come back to HIGH SCHOOL Sunday school. Said God had forgiven me! Ha!
I had very few friends, and I suspect those friends did the same thing I did...just quietly left. I wouldn't know, since I've refused to go to any reunions!
I would like to know what ever happened to our valedictorian...her name was Margot Goff and she was the nicest sweetest smartest person I ever met!
Otherwise, I hated Alvin High School.

How funny .. I graduated in 1981, but not from Alvin. Steve graduated in 1980. Did ya know the Webster boys? Bruce and Steve would have been a year ahead of you, and Scott a couple of years.
small small small small world ....
To: proud_2_B_texasgal
I don't recall them...but the school was rather big. I think we had like 400 in our graduating class...maybe more.
My last name was Parks back then. Let him see a pic of me...see if he recognizes me. (It's on my profile page...I had really long hair back then.) I played "Helen Keller"...I was in the drama department and we did "The Miracle Worker".
I wrote to a guy named Bert Hintzman after graduation for a while. I just quit corresponding with him one day and I've lived with that guilt a long time...wish I could find him and apologize. He graduated in 1980 and he was a real decent fellow. I think about him serving this country and how I was too much a kid to keep up writing to him...I could horsewhip myself.
To: proud_2_B_texasgal
Oh, Bert joined the Air Force right out of high school...guess I should have mentioned that.

ROFLMAO!!!!

Goodbye Frodo!!!

SSQ hated his high school, too! He only had 5 friends the whole time, and he was only able to keep in touch with 3 of them over time. Sadly, the one who was the Best Man at our wedding died about 10 yrs. later.
SSQ has refused to go to any of his reunions either. He said he didn't like those people when he was there, why would he spend the money to go see them again! He's trying to get his guy friends together sometime in the next few months.
I haven't been able to make any of my high school reunions. We were never in town when they were having them, or the kids were in school and I couldn't get away. I hope they'll have a 35th, and I can make it in 2006! I'm sure I won't recognize any of those folks. I haven't seen most of them since graduation. We'll all have to wear name tags with the writing in BIG letters so us 'old folks' can see them!

We saw this little baby squirrel up at Echo Lake. Clare called it Frodo cause it had such BIG eyes! It was only about 12" long, including his tail which, as you can see, was RED!

Funkling is healthy! LOL! 9 out of 10 psychiatrists say so too, to themselves, when there is no one to talk to.

He said he didn't like those people when he was there, why would he spend the money to go see them again! My sentiments exactly. I sent a nice letter in lieu of me for our recent 10th. My motto since high school has been "the best revenge is to live well" and the letter described all the nifty ways I've been accomplishing that. Muahahaaa

9 out of 10 psychiatrists say so too, to themselves, when there is no one to talk to. Teeheeeheee. But what about the 10th psychiatrist? Did a squirrel run up his pant leg?
To: SuziQ; ecurbh
Frodo squirrel is a cutie pie....
Was just thinking about you.... I think when you get your Frodo chapter posted we will have enough episodes to make it interesting and we could send a little 'take a look at this' press release to TORN, *if* ecurbh thinks it is a good idea.... Getting a lot of hits might be a good or bad thing! ecurbh, what do you think? Is 15 minutes of fame a good or bad thing? Would we get swamped?

the 10th psychiatrist just hates to take a stand. He always answers 'not sure' or 'undecided'.

Here's one of Frodo going up to the Falls.

He always answers 'not sure' or 'undecided'. I'm not sure how I feel about that. :P
To: HairOfTheDog
And here's Frodo at Echo Lake at the base of the 'Misty Mountains'.
To: SuziQ
Cool SuziQ! You took a lot of neat shots!
Now.... are you going to make one post collection of all of these? - Or should ecurbh be keeping all these?

I'm gonna devise some sort of commentary, then get ecurbh to walk me through how to post it at the Journeys of Flat Frodo site.
Folks along the way have been so funny when I've unfolded Frodo and. Their reactions have ranged from "What the heck is that?", and then when I've explained what we're doing, to, "What a neat idea!" One girl even had HER picture taken with Frodo by her sister at the Bronx Zoo! The little kids are the cutest, though, cause he's just above eye level with many of them, and it is fascinating for them!
To: SuziQ
All you have to do is post it here and ping ecurbh, and he will copy it all to the site.... He copies and re-hosts the pictures there so that they don't get lost later if we move our photo albums around.
