Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Yes, I was thinking that I would drive in late Sunday not late Saturday. But, family really hurts sometimes and I decided I ought to just get home and try to rest some and see when it starts to stop hurting. :-) I know it will subside sometime. Just waiting for when.

I am sorry - I so hoped that your family would have some kind of miracle and get closer in mourning your Grama....
Get some rest maybe.... that will always help, and come talk to us in the morning, hopefully that will help too! :~D . Are you alone now? - Or are the kids still there?

LOL. I was just thinking my family should get through without any blowups. And I'm the one that ended up leaving all mad and in a huff! (that was why I started with the LOL)
My kids are not happy with me. Older daughter especially. She was the one I had the blow-up with.
Myranda has decided that she will be living in Germany now. Indefinitely. (well, considering she is 18 I have an idea "indefinite" is not the same as it is for us though) Anyway, *whine* I think I lost my Grama and my baby all in the same week. And I am lonely.

bath-tub water is mostly just for toilet flushingFran taught me that bathtubs don't hold water all that well.
Good Morning!

Morning OT.
This must be the weekend for "machinery that you take for granted" to quit working.
Our refrigerator's compressor gave up the day before yesterday, we never noticed until everything was completely defrosted, venison, dolphin, steaks, mackeral, etc. Put everything in ice chests that are normally used for fishing expeditions, and have been buying lots of ice last couple days. Gonna cook all the stuff and refreeze it cooked tomorrow, when the guy puts in a new compressor.
How is your weekend going?

Nice to hear from you W.
I suppose Myranda may not stay there too long, after all, it is beguiling and exciting to be in a new and exotic place, even for us older folks.
18 year olds are very "independent" anyway, in my memory. This is pretty strong in my memory, mine were only quite recently that age. I suppose, in their case, their need to test their wings and fly is being pretty well satisfied by the fact that they have both gone to college in fairly distant states, so they are not around much anyway.
Which is sad for a parent, even when it is for the best.
But, the best to you.

Sam: what a bummer, however, that will be quite a barbque, smoker, roasting and broiling fest. A friend made jerky out of his venison when his freezer rolled craps on him, tasted just fine btw.
To: HairOfTheDog
Are you taking Frodo?LOL! Thanks for reminding me!! We're getting a late start, so I'm glad I check the Hole before I left. I'm sure I can find a nice glade that reminds me of Ithilien. I could have taken Frodo's picture with the 'Old Man in the Mountain' in the background, but his face fell off a couple of weeks ago! That was a shock to the good people of NH!
I don't know who gets him next, except for Corin in early August. Gotta go make lunch for the trip! Have a great day!

Good morning, good idea on the washer but in our case we have front loader. Since we have radiators there is an ample supply of water we could bleed off, I think.
We have kitty litter containers we use for catching the condensation from the A/C units. Figure we paid for it once and the plants need water. Same thing with the dehumidifier we have in the basement.

WN: glad you made it back safely. Sorry to hear things didn't turn out the way we all hoped they would. Can't offer any sage advice about young 'uns since we don't have any and 18 is back in the Second Age for us, lol. Hope that all turns out for the best. Maybe a long ride on the Harley is in order.
To: Wneighbor
Hey girl! I was remembering you and Grama at Mass yesterday.
Yeah, I heard that with the family thing! So glad you're back.
I'm heading out to New Hampshire to hike the Flume with SSQ and the kids. It is a lovely crack in the earth left by the last glacier moving across this area a few years back. ;o) I'd take Frodo in and get his picture by a huge waterfall, then something that looks like the Forbidden Pool, but the walkways are narrow, and we'd have an enormous amount of annoyed people behind us. We'll find a nice spot to take some pictures, though.

Myranda has decided that she will be living in Germany now. Indefinitely.Well, there is somewhat of a bright side to this. Jill will have some help during the rest of her pregnancy, and you AND Myranda will be there when the baby arrives!

Yeah, Jeanne just asked me to fire up the smoker.

Hi, Hair.
My dogs got thru the fireworks OK. The biggest one (c. 110 lbs.) is deathly afraid of them.
Funny, though, thunder does not bother him much, while one of the smaller dogs is terrified of thunder, but takes fireworks in stride.
The very smallest, 13 lbs., barely notices either, although he does bark at soaring buzzards and aiplanes.

Gidget got through last night OK - There was just a few fireworks leftover next door. I wish I didn't resent fireworks so much, it is making me a curmudgeon.
I don't know why Gidget is a maniac.... I tried to bring her up right!
