The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My sister has 2 gigs in Chapel Hill tomorrow -1 in the morning and the other in the evening so she's coming here in between.

I withheld the meds so far for Gidget and got away with it... The pre-show show has been pretty quiet. My immediate neighbors have left and gone camping, as they said they were going to do, so most of the noise was pretty distant.
The only really close variable that always happens is people lighting stuff in the parking lot of the little store next door.... Haven't heard a peep out of my neighbor on the far side of the pasture.... He has been a problem before because he aimed all the rockets over my pasture because there are trees everywhere else. Fine except for the risk of FIRE! That also leaves me with all the spent rockets to pick up grrrrr.

She isn't staying over? - Well that simplifies the cleaning a little.... Just the spots seen by a casual sister visitor.

Hair: might be a brown head cowbird, they lay their eggs in other birds nests. Not sure if they are up in your neck of the woods.
Corin: cool graphic, have a great holiday.

I don't think they shoot fireworks in our neighborhood, but they do have a "parade" that freaks the cat out. They drive around with the fire truck and people marching with flags and stuff. When kitty knows there are strangers outside, she slinks around looking for a blanket to dive under.

That is odd. Kind of like a birdie foster-parent thing?

OT: apple pie, hmmm.
Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie & Chevrolet.
To: HairOfTheDog
No...she has kitties to take care of. In fact, tomorrow eveing or late afternoon I'm taking HRH PG to her place to cat-sit next week.
Yeah, I only have to get it sister-clean, not mother-clean.

Possible! I don't know if we have them here, because I don't know birds real well!
It was a very plain bird.... Though I do think still immature and not its final color.

I wish it had rained so the pasture wasn't so dry.... As much as I hope they just don't do it!
Current Kitty #8 is not that freaked as I recall... he feels pretty safe in the house. I don't let him out once it starts, but I don't have to baby him like I do Gidget.

So what is the deal? Do sparrows ever sit eggs that are not theirs and raise them? - Wonder how this happened? The young one is probably a cowbird. The female lays an egg in a songbird's nest. Her egg hatches fist, and the chick is bigger. The chick throws the other eggs/chicks out of the nest, and lets the songbird raise it. Other "trash birds" have a similar MO.
