Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

And is Umbridge the worst Defense teacher yet? I swear to goodness I work with a real Prof. Umbridge! The body shape, the face, the hem hem cough. The victorian trinkets, the high-pitched voice, the pushy know-it-allness! Our gal wears heavy, heavy rose oil perfume that we're all allergic too. The perfect, real Umbridge!
*chuckle* re the star names. There's a star in the big dipper with an arabic name that sounds like "doobie". I'd love to see that one on the Black family tree. ;)
I think Tonks was the most intriguing new character. Maybe it was the hair thing.

And tell them who responded first to start the whole thing off.....
To: sinkspur These two groups have nothing in common to talk about anyway, so what's the point?

Over 135,000 posts of nothing in common later..... ;^)

Have you ever been there? No. I avoid religious discussions like the plague. Arguing doesn't make me feel closer to Christ.
To: Lil'freeper
Really? I think Kingsley Shacklebolt is utterly cool. And Zacharias Smith just kept telling Harry what needed to be said, and what no one else was saying. Cho Chang was more annoying than ever, Harry's well shut of her. Dumbledore was so infuriating, if he'd only told Harry anything, Sirius wouldn't have died.
Oh, and the Weasleys just keep getting better. I expect Percy to have to redeem himself later, and Ginny's going to follow in Fred and George's shoes... hope the twins get to join the Order now that they're graduated. Ron really shone. So did Neville Longbottom, actually, now all of a sudden he's a great character. Just think, it could have been "Neville Longbottom and the Chamber of Secrets".

I have learned so very much from that discussion. I try, have failed at times, to have discussions that are meaningful. I enjoy studying and looking up things to give educated answers and refutations. My faith in what I believe has been made stronger by what I have learned. I have slowed way down posting over there because everything I could say I have. I am leaving it in God's hands now.
Honest discussion is not the same as arguments. There have been many many honest discussions on the NES, and I cherish the time I spent there.

Now you can offer up some of your false apologies...offer to leave the thread, do what ever it is you always do so everyone will fall all over themselves begging you not to leave...I don't care. With all due respect 2J:

I thought the revelation that James Potter was a bit of a jerk was good for the Harry character but a little too predictable and lame for Snape. Snape remains my favorite character and I think Rowling really shortchanged him in this book. I love the intrigue surrounding his history and loyalites.
Agree on Cho, but she is the typical teenage girl. The whole Cho arc could be a valuable lesson for teenage boys on the female psyche.

Maybe if it's a soy allergy, it just took a long time to show itself. *sigh*
I'm leaving in a few, so I'll see you all later!

It isn't chicken crap, it is our lives.
Sigh....

Heh... I loved that scene! A lot of my friends find it validates many of our assumptions, though it was disappointing to discover that our heroes, the Marauders, were really, well, arrogant little jerks. You should have seen the flurry of rationalizations! Remus Lupin was the only one who was pretty much exactly as hoped for in that scene. There was the bit about the five signs identifying the werewolf, I thought it was great, "One, he's sitting at my desk, two, he's wearing my clothers, three, his name's Remus Lupin..."
Must be hard being the nicest creature of darkness in history, don't you think?
