Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Way to go and a great education for the children. Nature is a great teacher. I used to have bees and Muscovy ducks. Some chickens too.

You know, some days FR ticks me off, and some days it's just fun watching the meltdown. You had one of those days, too? Had to push away from the keyboard earlier and think happy thoughts. Speaking of which, we have basement walls! They were poured today. Might have some pics a bit later.

I can agree with you on your analysis of Faramir being a flat character and I think that may be why people get so uptight over PJ's treatment of him on screen. You have to manufacture backstory for secondary characters like Faramir, make up some history for him, and everyone is going to do this differently. The complete Faramir is unique to each reader.
But I'll tell ya what, the screen Faramir is swoonalicious.

By the end of this weekend, I hope.

Faramir being a flat character Rats! I couldn't find Flat Faramir.

I couldn't find Flat Faramir. Would be nice if there was one.

Nite all. Too tired to go for the precious. Maybe if we leave it as bait, the dwarf will come back.
To: carton253
I disagree almost completely with your analysis of Faramir's character. But, that's why they make so many different flavors of ice cream. :)

Congratulations on the basement walls!
When I tell my wife that I want a house with a basement, she looks at me funny. Houses in Texas don't have basements.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Houses in Texas don't have basements. I think that is because Texas is so big, no need to dig, just make it wider. Land is cheap.

Why do you want a basement?

no need to dig, just make it wider. There is that... also, the ground is mostly limestone, so it is very difficult and expensive to dig.
I like basements... every house in Michigan where I grew had a basement. I lived in a basement apartment for two years after college. Also, a basement is a good place to hide when a tornado visits, as sometimes happens here in Texas.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Well, the Tornado thing is a good point.... I am surprised most wouldn't have some kind of basement that could be a storm shelter.

We have a mixed bag here, of houses with basements and not, depending on the specifics of the lot.... Lots of hills where half basements or full basements are easy, lots of lowlands where the water table is about 3 feet down and no one smart makes a basement.
We have a half basement at the beach house, and a river ran through it till we spent a lot of $$$$ and sweat on drainage during the remodel.

In this part of Texas, tornadoes aren't all *that* common... and the limestone makes it very difficult to dig. Also, the limestone shrinks and swells a lot with the dry and wet seasons; cracked foundations are very common because of that. I imagine that would make a basement harder to maintain, too.

lah-dee-dah.
