The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Cute little mare, though awfully light in the hindquarters. I suppose that could be rectified to a certain degree with enough dressage, though. It's unfortunate that she's so little. It looks like 3 inches of that 15-3 is in wither. But for a small woman or a child she'd be delightful.

looks like you stayed around after lunch! I didn't want to be rude, but really! How many synthesis chemists do I need to talk to!

Will have to watch for her in the film.... Aragorn looks to be still riding the chestnut version of Brego in the RoTK shots I have seen (though some of the TTT shots had a Bay, it was not this horse), perhaps she is Eowyn's mount, or perhaps they are exaggerating her role when they say "starring".
(Naw - Horse traders never stretch the truth) ;~D

Do you have to come to their house and meet their parents before they commit?

Okay...why I don't like Faramir.
Now, I'm going to qualify this by saying I've only read those books twice... once really fast and once a little slower... so I've probably missed more than I got.
The best character in Lord of the Rings is Smeagol. He is a wonderfully drawn and realized villian. To give him a split personality, humor, and finally pathos is to create a 3-D villian that you like, feel sorry for and despise all at the same time.
Faramir has none of that going for him. He's one dimensional. He's good. In fact, he's so good that he is able to do the one thing no one else can do. Stay away from the ring. Man, he's not even tempted. Gondor is under attack...the "weapon" has come to him. Boromir couldn't resist it. Not Faramir. He's so good and his character is beyond reproach. That makes him bland and boring to me.
I found severe with Frodo and Sam. His personality was as bland as his goodness.
Then, he is constantly thrust upon us. He even gets a romance with another bland character. Eowyn.
He tries my patience.
Which tells alot about me. I like my characters flawed. I like them human. I like them to have to overcome difficulties.
My favorite character in literature is Sydney Carton. I also like Rhett Butler. And I like Smeagol.
So there you have it...
Most will disagree with me and if you are one of those who do... it's okay. My feelings won't be hurt if you post and tell me why you think I'm wrong. It's called a discussion... let's have one.

That's the problem with Faramir, he's British. I like my heroes a little more American.
