The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

What were the Morg Wars? Uh...er...um....the Morg are a certain Utah contingency. There for a while (when drstevej was in captivity) it was verbotten to disagree with any of them. That's settled down now that Illbay has been sent to the nether regions.

I thought you would be interested in this. I'm beginning to put explore grad schools. I know that I'm far out in front, but I wanted to make sure that I was pursuing the correct major and that my ducks were in a row or what I had to do to make sure I was a prime candidate.
Anyway - only 13 colleges in the entire country offer the program I want. Of those, only 7 offer the exact program I need.
Of the 7, 3 have quotas. University of Texas, University of Michigan, and finally, Harvard.
Harvard is very blunt. It doesn't matter about grades. It doesn't matter what you score on your GRE. Of the applicants, 12% are taken and minorities get first crack at the positions. Students like me get what is left over.
The Supreme Court did not help my cause.

...now that Illbay has been sent to the nether regions.I think the appropriate theological term would be "outer darkness." ;^)

If you're thinking about the University of Texas law school, they had to throw out their race-based admissions policy a year or two ago after a reverse-discrimination suit called the Hopwood case. They haven't decided yet how the Supreme Court decision affects them... they haven't made a new policy yet. When did you plan to attend grad school?
To: carton253
But the sad thing is they don't consider how they reflect upon the name of Christ.I'm betting that if you were able to take a truthful poll of them that about 99.9% would think they reflect well on the name of Christ.
I know Jesus could throw around words like "vipers" and "whited sepulchres" and not be in sin when He is talking to some people, but we're not Jesus.
I sometimes let my sarcasm get the best of me and I need to apologize and tone it down.
With all the stuff that goes on over there, I still find I like most of the posters over there. Weird, huh?

Mine isn't law... mine is Middle East Studies... It's good to hear that they haven't made up a new policy. Another poster on another thread said that they had.
I plan to go fall of 2006...
Due to the little research that I have done, I have changed my major from Political Science to International Affairs.
I also want to attend an Arabic school in Beruit in the spring/summer of 2006.
This will take all kind of logisitics and money... so we will have to see if its feasible. My arabic teacher's father teaches arabic at the American University in Beruit and she wants me to study under him.

No... it shows the goodness of your heart.
And you are right about the poll. I do not reflect well, that's why I have to stay away. My temper gets the better of me...

What's interesting is that the programs are very anti-Israel and anti-American. That's going to be a problem. I'm going to have to learn how to be and remain neutral if I should get accepted.
That's a long way off still...

There are only a few issues that make me mad. Actually, not even issues, really. A few personality types. But I don't argue with them *usually*. If possible, I just throw in a disclaimer for any lurkers that might think I approve.... something like:
