The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I think it's hysterical!!

The first time I met Steve I asked him and bunch of people if they wanted to come over and eat nachos with me. I'm sorry, but I make KILLER nachos. Anyway...Steve was the only person that said they wanted to come and I backed out of it because I'd just met him!

But we've shared many platters of nachos since then.

You think it'll work? - "Wanna come back to my place and see my stash of canned goods?"

It's a heck of a lot more practical than, "Want to come back to my place and look at my etchings?" ;o)

Sounds exhausting! Whaddya do if you're a lazy bum? :)

That would mean you are Grama's sister. Well, maybe not the bum part. But slow as molasses and never gets anything done. You are not like that though. You get things done.

Got it! I turn in the prayer requests tomorrow morning, and she'll be listed. I'll send you the bulletin with her name in it, if you like. I'll get SSQ to pick it up next Sunday cause I'll be gone to NYC with Clare's Girl Scout troop.Did you read that we're taking Flat Frodo with us to the Big Apple? I told the troop about it yesterday and they thought that was cool!

Myranda's dad was astonished because I could cook vegetables and make them good to eat. He used to tell his mother that she needed to come learn to cook from me. kind of backwards from normal huh?

NO!!! I didnt' see that!!! THAT IS SO EXCITING!!! I can't wait to see the pictures.

I have not even made an effort to read any posts from last week. I just checked in last night and dropped by here now for a bit of chatter before I head down again.

I guess now that I've said that I'll go ahead and say that my boss has approved of my arrangements for having a sub for the next 3 classes. We have the trip home from Germany for both my daughters in the works. (I will be seeing my grandbabies shortly!!!)

Note to self - remember camera to share photos with Hobbit Hole.

Grama may not be alive when I get there. The family members are who actually need the prayer. Lots of unsaved loved ones. I like the prayer for her happy death though. It is a good prayer. :-)

I am taking my notebook computer but don't know where I'll get the net connection so the plan as it stands right now is that I'll be home in 13 days.

He used to tell his mother that she needed to come learn to cook from me.

SSQ never actually TOLD his mother that, but she used to tell me all the time that I was a better cook than she. She just didn't like FOOD that much (is that sick, or what? LOL!), and as a result, she was no bigger than a minute! But since she didn't like to eat, cooking didn't appeal to her.

SSQ always reminds our kids how lucky they are to have a Mom who can cook! Our kids have internalized that message too, cause whenever our boys come home, they always say how good it is to come home and EAT. Oh well, at least I know they'll come home for visits sometimes, if only to eat my cooking!

it's kind of her philosophy to fill up a life with absolutely everything possible.

My mom too.... If I were the type to be riddled with guilt, perhaps I would feel guilty about my failure to be busy every day...

At my mom's service, a big booming Baptist minister sang "Climb Every Mountain" from Sound of Music acapella. It rocked that Lutheran church and our poor shy minister! It fit my mom, with her having climbed mountains and lived so fully all her days. Perhaps it would be a good choice to consider for your Grama too. Let her hear it this week and see, if it would be appropriate.

Live streams of it: "Climb Every Mountain" (Windows Media)

WOW! That would be an awesome choice for her. I'm afraid it will not be something I will be allowed to submit - my mom is handling all the arrangements and has already been miffed because I suggested a preacher Grama knows and likes instead of the one from my mom's church. The guy started at my mom's church yesterday. Mama has never even met him. Grama sure hasn't. That's just crazy. What does he know about her? What can he say personal? It's crazy.

She said I could do it. I am trying to screw myself up to think I can. I would like to if I could hold up and not break down. I think she said it because she likes to set me up for failure though. I think I need to do it and conquer that.

Alas, I can't sing, or I could sing the song. I love that song. Hmmmmm.... can I be wired? and lip sync???

Hm...as a musician I can invite someone back to look at my axes (instruments). Good pickup line if I ever meet a nice dwarf. Though how he'll react when he finds out I didn't mean THAT kind of axe, I dunno...

The family members are who actually need the prayer

They will be prayed for. It is always we who are left behind who are most in need of prayer. It is hard enough for we who know that our loved ones are safely home with the Lord; we are just selfish and want them with US. It is especially hard for those who struggle with their belief in God. They aren't sure, or don't believe their loved one is in a better place, so it is a bitter time for them.
