Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Gotta see today if maybe there is a way I can lock that tool cabinet. Up until now all the really good tools I keep in the house because the barn doesn't lock... What's the climate like in your barn? Is it dry enough that you don't have to worry about rust?
Marl's barn is always damp, and every tool in it was turned into a lump of rust over the years. Except for the stainless steel Leatherman tool I bought her, which she uses for fence repair and general puttering. After 10+ years, it's not quite as shiny as new, but it hasn't rusted.

Flat Frodo's page has been updated with OT's report. Also check out the new updated map. You can now click on a location to go to that page!
Time to hit the shower, then get some work done. Later, all!

Uh.... of course our climate is damp, but the barn stays bone dry inside. Haven't had any trouble with rust, but of course up to now the tools have been out on the wall in the open with good air circulation. My steel toolbox was sitting in the concrete, and it hasn't rusted. With everything closed up, I was gonna watch for mildew, and you are right, I could get rust.

I'll be doing a more detailed report once the rest of my pictures are developed.

OK. I'll be out town from 24JUN to 02JUL, then moving into my new place after that, so it'll be a couple weeks before I get to update it again.

We went to Borders. My friend had called and reserved 2 books for us. I don't know if there was any left for those without the reservations.
The book is really good so far. If this goes anything like the last book's release, I probably won't get into the shower until late afternoon because I'll be so busy reading LOL
I'm mad because I found out who dies. I had promised myself that I was going to be patient, but NOooooo I had to go and find out. It's gonna be sad :-(

Went last night with my 20 year old daughter and some of her friends + Jeanne to Borders for the HP book, daughter had to dress up, she was excited.
She hadn't pre ordered or anything, but they had plenty for everyone, so we came home with the thing about 01:00. Lots of fun. Even the little blonde dog, Minnow, was dyed orange so he could masquerade as Crookshanks.

"Even the little blonde dog, Minnow, was dyed orange so he could masquerade as Crookshanks"Oh I love it!
Borders did a good job. The employees dressed up like characters and they did a great job with that. They had even had a sorting hat...it was cool because the hat looked like it a lot and they had a walkie talkie or something in the top that someone would sort them with so it seemed like the hat was talking. That person was watching via the store video camera because they would comment on what they were wearing, etc. And then of course the hat wizard hat and wand making.
To: Dawntreader
Yeah, I thought Borders did a good job also.
My daughter had first called Barnes and Noble, they told her to forget it if she hadn't pre ordered. Borders, on the other hand, said not to worry, they anticipated having enough for all, which they did.
Daughter said she saw Rowlings interviewed on TV, and that Miss Rowlings had spoken about crying uncontrollably when she wrote the death of the character, so I am slightly spooked about that part.

Well, as I said, Clare didn't get it last night since that was only for pre-orders; we got up early and got a copy at
Tarzhay.
Lo and behold, this afternoon, a UPS truck shows up with the one we DID pre-order from BAMM.com!! I asked the driver about it since I knew they didn't deliver on Saturdays. She said that if it is an overnight package, they WILL deliver on Sat. Unfortunately, Flat Frodo wasn't delivered as well. You'd think that if they were coming out anyway, that they'd have brought him, but I guess he'll have to be all alone there in the Tower of UPS until Mon. morning. It's a good thing he has Sting with him to hold off any orcs that might be lurking there.

My bad! I should have overnighted poor Frodo. :(
To: SuziQ
Heh...one time I work I ordered some stuff. It arrived a day late because they sent it to Raleigh. So they took another day to send it to Chapel Hill, before delivering it to me in the Park which is between Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Grrrrrr!
To: SuziQ
Well, find him some Orc rags, I guess.

Yes it is. His expected delivery date (why does that sound strange?) was Friday.

Back outside....some deer nipped the tops off of 3 of my zinnias before it decided it didn't like zinnias.
