Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oh that cake sounds WONDERFUL! It must be extremely moist. Hmmm. Blueberry cake this weekend sounds yummy. Have you ever tried making it in a bread machine? I got a Zojirushi for Mother's Day, and I've been using it like crazy. I plan to try a Banana bread recipe this evening. I might try this cake in there too!

ecurbh,
Would you mind if I posted a link to your forum over on a Christian board I post at? Someone is trying to get a LOTR club going over there and I'd like to link them to your forum. But I wanted to check with you first.
BTW, I got your check yesterday as well.

I know I am... sometimes I call friends and family over to gaze upon my work...When I was in college I had a part time job at a day care center. I had the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 yr. olds, so some were in the midst of potty-training, which I worked on when they were with me. One day, the father of one of the little boys came in and showed us a photo of one of his boy's 'creations' floating in the toilet. It must have been almost a foot long! We almost died laughing!!
This was a quiet, academic guy who we'd NEVER have suspected would do such a thing, but he was quite proud of his son!

Blueberry cake Mmm...I'm saving this recipe! Sounds really rich and good.

Ladies, I am in need of a baked crook-neck yellow squash recipe that would go well with pork chops this evening.
I am inundated with yellow squash!!
Something with cheddar cheese would be good.

How about scalloped squash?
Scalloped Squash And Bacon 4 cups sliced raw squash
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper
2 cups milk
6 strips bacon
Peel the squash (if using a thick-skinned variety) and cut in slices about one-eighth inch thick. Arrange half of it in a greased baking dish and add flour, salt and pepper. Add the remainder of the squash, cover with hot milk and bake in a moderate oven, 325°, for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and top with strips of bacon which have been slightly cooked to remove some of the fat. Return to oven for 15 minutes.
You could always add grated cheddar to melt on top or mix it in with the squash.

Frodo's in Chelmsford. The UPS guy just dropped off a package, so I won't see him again until Monday. Frodo will be able to protect all those shipments of the new Harry Potter book that folks won't get until Monday since UPS doesn't deliver on Saturday!
To: SuziQ
Poor Frodo! His estimated delivery date is today!
Our UPS guy makes another pass around 5:00. I've had notes left on my door from the morning run that they'd try to deliver that afternoon.

Suumer Squash Casserole ( from my trusty Mississippi Cookbook)
2 pounds tender yellow summer squash
1/2 stick margarine
2 Tablespoons finely chopped green onion tops
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
dash of Tabasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon onion salt
1 - 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 cup bread croutons (see directions)
melted margarine
garlic salt
Wash and scrub squash and remove stem and blossom ends. Steam in large saucepan in as little water as possible to tender the squash. When done, drain very thoroughly;mash coarsely. Mix in margarine, chopped onion tops (use only very tender tops), nutmeg, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and onion salt. Fold in grated cheese. Use a 'light hand' in mixing ingredients, to make for a fluffier product. Place in a buttered casserole and cook uncovered at 350 degrees until bubbly, about 20 minutes or so. Menwhile, dice enough lightly toasted bread to make 1 cup of croutons. Roll gently in melted margarine until all croutons are coated with margarine; sprinkle fairly generously with garlic salt. As casserole begins to bubble, cover top with croutons and finish cooking until bread is nicely browned. Serve hot. Serves 8
That sounds good, doesn't it?
To: Overtaxed
Mmmm! That sounds wonderful!
We had grilled cheese sandwiches, corn chips and glasses of milk for lunch with blueberries and whipped cream afterward (except for Matthew, who doesn't eat any fruit, he had vanilla yogurt.)
