Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I noticed you and Cindy and Mack/Becky were here. Do they know anything about hobbits? Or are we taking over this thread now? You wanna debate Calvinism?Nah! The most contentious we get over here is when the case is made that Aragorn rode Boromir's coattails to the throne.
Far better than I deserve! You?
I'm doing well thanks! Well, at least until people see what I wrote above. ;^)

What's this about "exploding orange juice", Corin? *smile* You weren't here for that? I had the Hollywood Diet "drink" (it's pretty nasty) in a sports bottle at work and the top came off. Ruined the shirt, not to mention the rest of that day...

Stop, Oh, please stop:)

You know those Slim Fast shakes aren't too bad if you add a couple of scoops of ice cream... And some chocolate syrup lol. I have actually done this. I was telling Ksen, I stick with weight watchers and then jump over to Atkins to purge when I've been really bad. Not much to eat but meat so I basiclly just semi-fast.

so I'd say the high protein, low carb guys are onto somethin'... Can't pass up an opportunity to rant:
Been doing a lot of research on the topic of nutrition these last few months and my take is that our grandparents and great-grandparents were on to something. Refined carbs were expensive back in the day, so the common folk ate whole meats, whole veggies, whole grains, and whole fats. They also took a lot of cod-liver oil and got far more exercise. They were much healthier than the generations that grew up with margarine, cheerioes, TV, and Pepsi. The crazy thing is that this is no great secret, but folks are cashing in writing books and getting research grants. One of these days I'll figure out how to get it on it.

...when I skip a few chapters.*gasp!* *ack!* *ack!*
Or would that get me lynched?
I don't think that's a lynching offense. Probably the fact that I've only read through the series twice would be considered a lynching offense.......

real chocolate's fine... just leave out the sugar... and the milk... Heh...I've actually eaten unsweetened dark cooking chocolate before.
I guess it's the chocoholic equivalent of drinking rubbing alcohol, kinda sorta.
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
I alternate between the chocolate and vanilla flavors. Aacckk! I can't stand the vanilla or the strawberry. And the "tropical" stuff reminds me of the barium I had to drink when I was getting CAT-scan every six months. Ruined a favorite restaurant for me too. We used to go get their pina coladas that they made with ice cream. After the "tropical flavored barium" I could never go back there...(gags me even now...)
To: g'nad
How about semi-sweet baking chocolate? Half the sugar!
The darker the chocolate, the more antioxidants.
To: g'nad
unlike my little deviants... Mine too. Jr. would've provided a demonstration...

I'll add my .02 that you
have to read the books. And I disagree that you should start with the Hobbit.
The movies have been thouroughly enjoyable, but frankly, they don't tell the same story (I'm sure you see alot of that opinion here if you read back). Wait till winter and read all three. The first time through you'll think the first 100-150 pages are boring and want to put it down. Resist that urge! Later you'll come to think they're some of the best parts of the story (sorta like how awful the first Star Trek movie was, now people actually seek out the extra long version (probably sacriledge to talk ST on a LOTR thread). Maybe a better example is how worthless new Christians often find hundreds of pages of the OT until they've been in it for 10-15 years and realize how it underpiins so much of what we believe.

Or are we taking over this thread now? FMCDH!....But yer still welcome!
To: Corin Stormhands
Thanks for the warning. I spotted that drink at the local drugstore and wondered what it tasted like.
It's gotta be pretty bad to ruin a shirt. *shudder*

I'm the same weight I've been since high school... Yeah, but my problem is I was a lard-@$$ in high school too...
To: Corin Stormhands
I have never been big on anything with fruit, so van. and choc. are my only choice.
The first day or so they taste a bit vitaminy, but after that, I get were I really like them.

Ack! Hasty rant. Should have included whole dairy in the list.
To: g'nad; Lil'freeper
my language is very proper when I'm home... Are you fergettin' I've been in yer home?
(actually, in front of the kids he's a model gentleman)

The first time through you'll think the first 100-150 pages are boring and want to put it down. But that's about my favorite part!
You got something against hobbits? ;-)
To: Corin Stormhands
Yeah, but my problem is I was a lard-@$$ in high school too... I was scrawny and weakly in high school. I'd rather have some curves and muscle, despite the numbers that show up on the scale.
To: Corin Stormhands
Whats the letters stand for?
