Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

(woah......good herbs)

I could probably get away with it here. I have a bit of a dilemna...I have junky off-work clothes and relatively nice work clothes, but no one here wears nice work clothes, or at least it's more casual...but I have nothing in between!

If you wear nice stuff to work, everyone thinks you've got an interview! Really....who wants to wear nice stuff when it's likely to get acid or other stuff splattered on it? I was working with one chemical with fumes that would turn my blue T-shirts pink even with a lab coat on.

Female geek story:
Caution may be boring it is from geeky source. So, a many years ago I went out a couple of times with this guy. It seemed like we hit it off pretty good. We go out like 3 times the first week. Then about the 4th date we went to a party on a Saturday night at some of his friend's house. They were discussing nuclear fission, except they were calling it fusion and vice versa. So, I entered the conversation and explained the difference.
The guy looked at me and said, "Wow, you have a brain."
He never asked me out again.
But, we did remain good friends for years. :-D He was best man when I married Myranda's dad.

You know what I'm going to do? Maybe it's workable for you too.
Since having Alyson, I can't fit into any of my pre-baby clothes - sooooo, I am going to buy a couple of elastic waist slacks (black and tan) from WalMart or something like that. Then, I just will wear sweaters or simple, comfortable blouses long enough to cover the waistband.
Those few things can mix and match until the budget allows for nicer stuff. That, or maybe, just maybe, I'll lose the extra weight.

Yes, it is inexpensive. I just like my little herb farm.

One thing good about being a lab geek.....you get to wear jeans to work. Amen to that!!!
To: RMDupree
That's probably about what I'll do. Khakis and decent blouses.

Hehehe....they don't like being beat at chess either.
Did that in high school quite often.

You know, I tried and tried at my old house to grow catnip. It was in the country, lots of farm cats around. Never would take hold. Cats got into it too much.
Now, I've planted one little pot and it's even volunteered itself over into a pot of lavander! Cool!
I also have a nice little patch of parsley Ruthie, I put it under one of my lemon verbena bushes so it would be a short companion plant under my leggy lemon verbena. They looked pretty together this fall. I haven't lived here long enough yet for my garden to be coming together yet but, I'm having fun starting over again in my new place.
To: Wneighbor
I had a hard time getting it started at first....cats liked it too much. So I grew it as big as I could in a pot before transplanting. It was big enough to withstand cat rolling and went to seed. Now, every spring I have catnip coming up all over the place!

I have a bit of a dilemna...I have junky off-work clothes and relatively nice work clothes, but no one here wears nice work clothes, or at least it's more casual...but I have nothing in between! I don't know about you... but for me... this would mean it was time for couple of hours at the local thrift store! I love thrift store shopping. Junk stores. all that stuff. Oh, yeah, that's why I can't fit everything in my new house too.

Friday night? 7:00 showing? Alamo Drafthouse?Sounds good! We can be there. I recommend buying the tickets in advance through Alamo's website; Alamo recommends showing up 45 minutes before showtime to make sure you can get seats together (there was a line waiting to get in when we were there.) Rose and I can get there earlier and save seats for you if needed.
Are you sure 7:00 pm is a good time for you, what with driving down and all?

they don't like being beat at chess either. Love it. Wish I could've seen it.

Since this was my first year here I haven't seen if my catnip is re-seeded in the bed yet. But, it grew quite well here.
I have 3 cats outside that my daughter and granddaughter's insisted had to move with us. (Other's stayed with our old neighbors to kill their mice and snakes.) The 3 cats didn't do any damage at all the the catnip in the ground.
I brought a variety of herbs and other perenials in pots in the house for the winter that I just had sitting outdoors all summer not knowing where I wanted to plant them. And lo and behold in a medium sized pot of English lavander here comes a little seedling of catnip. It's got several 6 to 8" plants in it now. I'm just letting them grow together for the winter.
To: Wneighbor
My garden would consist of nothing but zinnias and catnip if I let it.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Ahh, just to make sure.... you did check with Rose so she knows about this too?
Always have to check.... it's a mom thing.
Yes, we can be there with time to spare by 7. I have the website up now looking at it. I was waiting for you to reply before I bought tickets.
So, this is a Texas mini-mini-moot!!!
Anybody else in Texas around?
To: Wneighbor
Wish I could've seen it. Hehehe....sadly, I'm waaaaay out of practice now. Haven't played much since high school.
