Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Thanks for all the welcomes.
I'm sorry. I'm prob'ly an elf. I was inspired to make myself an elf cape way back in the '70s. Everytime I would read the books I would find myself dressing in greens, browns and earthy stuff and wearing my cape. (I generally have read the books every winter since 7th grade. The cape fit the weather in Texas.)
I don't reckon I can change my spots now but will try not to offend.

If I would have just got one more right, I would have tied for first and won So....which question(s) did you miss?
Or is that asking too much?

Hey there, everybody!
I come back to you at the turning of the tide!
Is there a room left for me? I don't need a very big one... Beautiful new place here!
I had fallen into Shadow there for a while. Sorry for my long spell of uncommunicativity. A lot of stress in my life led me to abandon FR for a while. Work was (and will continue to be for another month or so) on full overload. The kids got sick, my wife got sick, I got sick. My 83 year old aunt has been having problematic episodes relating to probable alzheimers/dementia symptoms. Christmas plays and musicals, etc., etc.
Things are kind of getting back to level now, but I will not be FReeping much from work any more. I came under conviction that it was a form of employee theft, cheating my employer, and I am much more productive and happy with my job when I don't allow the FR addiction into the workplace.
Very excited about the movie. I won't be able to see it until Sunday afternoon. Eagerly anticipating lots of fun discussion about it here...
Take care all!

Ahhh, don't worry about offending the Dwarves. They're like Tootsie Pops. They have hard shells, but soft inwards. ;^)

Welcome all the new posters! Vittles are a little late what with the excitement of The New Movie and moving into our new Hole. I forgot that our regular hostess RMDupree went to the midnight show so here is second breakfast!
We have stacks of pancake with butter and maple syrup, biscuits, sausage, bacon. If you need warming up we have hot cereals grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat. And I can make eggs if you like (they need to be cooked on an as needed basis....nothing worse than cold eggs that aren't deviled!)
We have a selection of pastries, muffins, bagels, or just plain toast on the sideboard with juices and coffee. And just to balance things out food group wise, we have fresh fruit: grapefruit, oranges, bananas, apples, grapes.
Hopefully this will keep you until your Two Towers viewing.

Hold the pancakes. I'm leaving for the theatre right now!

LOL, if it's any consolation to Corin, I'm a hobbit and my hubby is a Dwarf....totally, in every way, LOL!

Pancakes are held! I don't get to see the movie until this afternoon.
Is it 3:30 yet?

I'm really sure I must have been an elf all along. Even before JRRT entered my life. Except for making the cape I noticed I already had most of the other attire. And uh hum, well, I've been known since early childhood to have a favor for walking quietly through the woods and sort of absorbing the peace of God to be found there. That's seems an elvish thing to me. Although, I think it applies to Hobbits too.

I need some of pretty much all the vittles. And triples on the coffee. I haven't et good since yesterday lunch. I had a night class to teach till 9:30 last night. Then waited with one of my co-workers till the midnight showing. Then, had to be back in class at 8AM. My lovely students are busily taking their mid-term exams right now (we're on a quarter system here not semesters) and I'm ready for all that grub! and COFFEE!!!! almost as in need of food as a hobbit on a wilderness trek.

I moved from the high desert of NM to Colorado this past spring. I am definitely in heaven here walking along the paths, thru trees, watching the squirrels, birds, fish, ducks. I watch all of these people running or biking past with earphones, plugged into some radio station or something. They have no idea what they are missing.
When I am working on a project for work, and I get stumped, I take off for the afternoon and just go walk. By the next morning, I usually have the problem resolved..... I think I might qualify as an elf. But I love the handiwork of a dwarf.

"I think I might qualify as an elf. But I love the handiwork of a dwarf."
I definitely agree with that statement. But, I know my limits, I could not accomplish that handiwork of a dwarf. :-( I'll have to let them do it and appreciate it.
Some of my good friends live in Colorado. I enjoy all the time I get to spend borrowing their mountains and woods. Of course the thoughts of Coloradans to Texans kind of mirrors some of that elf/dwarf stuff too.

Ok, what we need to do now is to have everyone go out and buy laptops that are equipped to go online with a wireless connection. Then we can synchronize a time to go to the theatre and have a "chat/view" from there.
Simple... ;^)

Now that would be cool. I am planning for my next 2 or 3 times of viewing to see the movie at the drive-in picture show. The first 4 times I was LoTR was at the drive-in. It was incredible. Talk about the BIG SCREEN! Hopefully, I will get to do this Friday night.
To: ksen
Hi all!! Went to see TTT last night at a staff screening (I have connections) of the movie. The movie ROCKS, although I did have some initial shocks that I am still getting over and trying to figure out WHY I was shocked. Anyone who knows me knows instantly that my eyesights are focused on Pippin and Merry...well, mostly Pippin. But I know not everyone has seen it yet, so I will wait until next week.
Be sure to PING! me when y'all start 'reviewing' or discussing.

The three questions that I missed were:
1. Who found the Ring after Isildur lost it? Answer: Deagol. I said Gollum. (groaning loudly)
2. Who was supposed to play Aragorn, but it didn't work out? I said "Russell Crowe" I still don't know the answer.
3. How many teeth did Gollum have? I said 2. I don't know the answer.
I did get the one about Theoden's sword. I just had a feeling it would be on there and it was...Herugrim.
To: ksen
Wow, has anyone here discussed the following? Each remarkable, for very different reasons:
AWFUL REVIEW OF TTT BY AN IDIOT AT MSNBC
"What a creepy death kit this big movie is....This epic kitsch is cousin to the paintings of Thomas Kinkade and countless comic books. Imagine Tennysons Arthurian saga bloated to a theme park."
He's obviously never read the books. Why the heck is he reviewing the movie?
TOUCHING MEDITATION ON HOW TTT SPEAKS TO OUR CURRENT WAR
"Both the author and his cinematic interpreter inspire the LOTR audiences to stand firm in defense of our civilization, despite its flaws, without rewarding them with a sense of unearned triumphalism. There is far too much at stake for that: only the souls of individuals, and the soul of Western civilization."
