Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I hate it when the lesson of the decade is patience. I'm in my 5th decade. I think it's been the lesson of the decade for 5 decades now. Do ya think I'm not getting something??? LOL

Is anyone else having FR problems? I have been trying to post for ages now!
Got back from errands... the t-shirts were cheap enough, and we found paint and stencil letters, but the Kinkos was out of transfer paper so we're sort of stuck until we can get them...

Those grapes will irritate you and grow all over though.... We had to take out the ones at the beach house, because they were on the railing of the former deck, and just too much to manage.

To: g'nad
Yes.... In fact, every year, cut them back to old growth.... I mean all the way back to the hard bark-covered stumps, unless you are trying to get old growth in a particular shape. They only get grapes on this year's growth, and all that that you see that is green is in fact this year's growth.
Here is a winery shot to show how they prune them.

Plan for lots of big piles of grape vines to burn, or have the missus take up basket weaving.

LOL!
To: HairOfTheDog
If you don't cut them back to that, all the growth you have this year will be old growth next year, and the new fruit bearing growth will come off of that.
To: g'nad
Careful!

Careful with that too! You'll put your eye out! (perhaps your whole head along with it)

I need one of those. I'm getting real tired of doing everything around here with my bow saw.
