Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

How about your brother's car? - Was it damaged? He managed to hit two family cars on the same day! [chuckle!]

Hair - I certainly hope to one day see that beach house in person. I'd love to see the "other" ocean, rather than the same one I've stared at for years. *grin*

How about your brother's car? - Was it damaged?

I don't think so. My brother's the one who would be upset (in spite of the fact that HIS car is older and more beat than mine!), so I think I'd know if it had.

I think I've convinced Dad it's no big deal. Now he's blamin' the car...said he couldn't see out the back. It IS hard to see out of the back when you're parked on a hill. I have trouble backing down there, too. So far I've only hit a garbage can, but I can understand the problem!

I have a few but I think the better ones are on the rolls I haven't developed yet.

What a neat old lady to invite the garbage 'men' in! I delivered newspapers in a 'retirement'-type mobile home park when I was a kid. All kinds of grandmas in there, would often bring me treats and hot cocoa if it was cold and a glass of lemonade if it was hot. Once in a while, I would ride the route on my horse to deliver the papers... they were thrilled at that, and the old men called me the pony express.

Believe you me, I would love to just hop on a plane and head over.

One day, when my kids are grown, I'll do just that! :)

Well, I am off to town:(, I hate going over the river, especially clear to Tulsa, but my weed wacker is finished being repaired and I have to pick it up.

I am also going to buy some more flowers to plant, I pulled all the petunias up I had in my flower garden, so I have a bare spot. They just looked awful. They were growing big, had lots of flowers, but the flowers, even as soon as they opened went real limp, and were mushy and sticky to the touch. This is my first experience with flower gardening. Anyway, when I pulled them up I noticed that the roots were the same as when I first planted them, they had seemed to have not grown at all. Anyone know what I did wrong? Is it my soil? It isn't the best, kinda hard. I am going to work on it this winter. But everything else I have planted seems to be doing great.

OT, have you ever grown peppers in a pot? I kinda did a spur of the moment purchase this weekend...my sister and I went to the local farmer's market and one of the guys there was selling (among other plants) pepper plants of various types for just $1.50. So I got two. They're red chiles, medium hot, he said. He said they're small enough to grow in a good sized pot and could be brought inside during the winter.

I haven't transplanted 'em yet. I hope they actually grow and produce chiles!

Root bound, maybe? Kinda pull the roots apart a bit...just loosen them up before you plant. Coming over to my side of the river, huh?

I gotta go soon too...

No I haven't but they should do okay. I usually put 'em in the ground at The House. It's kind of shady at my house for peppers and if I leave them at The House in pots, they may or may not get watered. :)

Ride your horse, how cool. I use to ride my horse to church when we went to one about 7 miles from here, people thought that was cool.

Rural people are neat. Most of the people on our route were nice like she was. We were the first to start a route in this area, before that everyone had to deal with trash themselves. So they really appreciated it. It was the first busisness we started. We homeschooled our kids, so Mack would take off early, I schooled the kids, when they got done we would meet up with him and help. My son went with Mack in the trash truck and Jenny and I went in a pickup with high side rails. Jenny and I picked up the places that were hard to get to in the big truck. We always met up at Mrs. Sullivans house to unload the pickup into the big truck, then she would ask us in. She died last yr:(. But she was a great lady.

I have had annuals do well all year and when I empty the pots out in the fall, the roots are still in the shape of the original pot.... I think all it means in that case is that the roots never had to go looking for more water, that I watered them plenty. In this case of yours, who knows why they were sick really.... All flowers like Miracle grow with every watering.... try that!

Do they like a lot of sun? I was planning on putting 'em in big pots by either side of the door...I think it's kind of shady there.

Could put 'em over by the drive instead. I still haven't decided.
