The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hi!
I'd better go out and mangle some grass before it starts raining.
To: Overtaxed
Do that... I'm not budging, now that my Week from the Dimension of Weird is officially over. I'm gonna have tuna fish (bleck) for dinner, and then some sugarless Moose Tracks ice cream.

Sugarless? What's the point?!
To: Overtaxed
Hmmm. It uses Splenda, which tastes pretty much exactly like sugar. And it has almost no carbs.
That's the point....

But Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were men of integrity and honor, just as U.S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln were. The mistake comes in juding the men and women of 1862 by the standards of 2003. It just doesn't fit. I see it as worse than that. It's a stalinist attempt to make us rewrite history at their whim. It's part of the ongoing march of political correctness, which picks fights over little things in order to build their own strength for more serious stuff, and getting us used to surrendering the "little stuff".
Winston Churchill called the American Civil War "the last war fought between gentlemen". There were inspiring, shabby, and downright awful things about both sides. But to rewrite history by forcing people to change their thinking under duress is thought crime of klintonian proportions.
