The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Are you having a lot of activity in the air around your house?
We have had a LOT of fighter jet activity over my office in the last couple of days.

Regarding the problems with the new forum:
Although I saw the error briefly last night, I haven't had a problem getting in since then, so I am at a loss to explain why others are still having problems. I have also been told that email has been bouncing, but again, I just tested it, and everything seemed to work fine. I've looked at the settings in the site's control panel, but can't find anything that might have changed last night to cause this. But if the problem continues, please let me know, and I'll look into it with my host's help desk.
Just thought of this - I wonder if it may have something to do with remnants left on my old host's server. Have to look into that as well. And as a reminder, those of you that have images or links pointing to my old site at "lotr.ecurbh.com", please remember to change them over to "www.the-hobbit-hole.net".
Thanks for all your patience as I learn more about this web-hosting thing. :-D

I'm sorry to be a pain...but can you post the correct code for images on your site? Specifically for the hobbit hole banner image and the flat frodo image.
I still can't get onto the forum...says something about Apache webserver successfully installed.
To: ecurbh
Hi ho!
Still getting the "Hey, it worked!" page from here... occurs for www.the-hobbit-hole.net, as well as www.the-hobbit-hole.net/forum/index.php.
It may be that the Apache config file hasn't been tweaked yet to point to the proper directory for server requests. I don't think that's something you could do, the host site's system admins would have to take care of that.

The movie looks neat!! We're going to be doing Ancient History in homeschool beginning in the Fall, so this movie might be quite timely since it will probably come out in the Spring or Summer of 2004.
I like Wolfgang Petersen's work, so it should be very good!

OK, thanks for the info. I'll go ahead and open up a help desk ticket about it then.
Here's the code, Rosie:

To: ecurbh
OK, thanks for the code. I think I had it right...it's just not working right now.
I'm thinking it'll come back when the server does.

I can't help it, I can't get the IBM commercial with the Magic Server Pixie Dust out of my head...
(Boss Man) "What is it?"
(Computer Nerd) "Magic Server Pixie Dust."
(Boss Man) "Pixie Dust? How's it work?
(Computer Nerd) "Server goes down, sprinkle a little of this on it, server comes back up. Use it often enough, and servers fix themselves."
(Underboss) "How much does it cost?"
(Computer Nerd) "It's cheap."
(Boss Man) "Cheap?"
(Computer Nerd) "Soy-based."
(Underboss) "Soy-based?"
(Computer Nerd) "Bio-degradable."
(Boss Man) "Well, looks like we have a winner here!"
(Closing caption: There is no Pixie Dust)

One of my favorites is the Dilbert cartoon where the point-haired-boss says "I think we need more RAM."
Dilbert says "what color?"
PHB, "I think mauve has more memory..."

Aw shucks. Thanky ma'am.

It's so sporadic, I don't understand it. I contacted two friends who work in the same office (adjacent cubicles, even!). One got in fine, the other got the error.

For what it is worth...
Your Hobbit Hole main page and Flat Frodo pages are working just fine... But at the forum, I am still getting this:
Hey, it worked !
The SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver was
successfully installed on this website.
If you can see this page, then the people who own this website have just installed the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.
ATTENTION!
If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending mail to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running the Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to the Apache Group, so please do not send mail about this site or its contents to the Apache authors. If you do, your message will be ignored.
The Apache online documentation has been included with this distribution.
Especially also read the mod_ssl User Manual carefully.
Your are allowed to use the images below on your SSL-aware Apache Web server.
Thanks for using Apache, mod_ssl and OpenSSL!

Heh. The yankee I've been sparrin' with just tried to take me and g'nad to the woodshed.
How'd I Do?.
Wonder how long it will take 'em to figger out this is a sport for us?
To: ecurbh
I just tried the links and they lead me, eventually (they were very slow to connect), to the successfully loaded Adobe page.
