Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I fear it was not so good...the interview was great until we got talking (at the end) about budgets and salary and things. They essentially wanted the earth, moon and stars but were only prepared to pay pebbles, wood chips and ashes. The job was a really big one -- with broad responsibilities -- but the pay was at a level I made 17 years ago.
So there will be no bridging that gap and I am afraid that opportunity wasn't. Salt Lake was a little better, but that was just seed-planting (a meet-and-greet) only and nothing will come of that for some time, if ever.
Not such a great trip...so I'm back at ground zero in what is apparently a terrible market for job hunters (an employers market for sure). My wife has been the finalist for two part-time positions but didn't get either of them -- and the employers don't even bother to tell inform you these days when they hire someone else! So she's pretty mad and disappointed too.
So we're still without remunerative employment, of the permanent kind anyway, and kind of feel like a couple of hunks of meat given the way that we've been treated by potentials. Just the way it is these days, I guess.

Well I got the error before I left work, but I now I got home ready to check it out, and its working fine again. Maybe the server just went down for a little while.
To: ecurbh
Sounds like it needs some Magic Server Pixie Dust.

Travel safe! Don't put it on for any reason! :)

Us too, but it is a fun trip. My daughter, SIL, husband and I are all jumping on the motorcycles today and going down to OK City to see the Titanic Exhibition and maybe the bombing Memorial.
Everyone have a good day:)

Is there any chance you might be able to join us too, Rosie?Well....maybe, but not if it involves driving there. I just can't do it! Maybe as the time draws nearer you guys can let me know what the plans are, and we'll see then if it makes sense?

Happy travels to the road-trippers!

Is it 4:00 yet?

Are you familiar with Sean Bean as Richare Sharpe, a rifleman in the British Army during the Napoleanic War?The kids and I watched "Sharpe's Rifles" last weekend. We borrowed it from the library. It was pretty good, if a bit "made-for-tv." It was nice to see Sean Bean in the role of a good guy for once.
My wife and I love watching "Inspector Morse" mysteries. There was one on about a month and a half ago that had Sean Bean in it as one of the suspects. He looked like he was in his early twenties.
