The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Of course, one can't help but wonder...what do you do with them AFTER you've live trapped 'em? Drive for miles and miles and drop them off? Take 'em in the basement and plug them a bit less "openly"? ;-)

Since squirrels are probably some federally-protected species (most pests are), let me just say the answer is "none of the above". Officially, I give them a nice drive in the country.

I wouldn't hate squirrels if they left the trees alone. I let them have the seed scattered from my bird feeders. My aunt has a grove of black and English walnut trees, but she also has a family of cats that keep the squirrel population under control. The black walnuts mainly go into the compost heap.

That reminds me, my two "little" (they're probably pushing 60 feet, now) trees produce a couple hundred pounds of leaves that I have to pick up in the fall. One bad thing about walnut leaves is that they're big and heavy, so they fall straight to the ground, rather than blow on the neighbor's property. One good thing about walnut leaves is that they almost fall off at the same instant, so there's only a couple of days of raking.

Hey there! I wonder if the chaplain has dropped by?! I sent him the way to get here, so he could have!

WAVES! (just in case)

I took my boys to Vacation Bible School then went by my mom's house and then we went to the mall. Now I'm waiting to go pick them up at her house, then we're going to pick them up. I'll check back in later.

Hope he goes ahead and signs in! - We won't know when to set out the extra seedcakes otherwise!

Just saw your cleaned up quiet space. Very nice!

Now all you have to do is install some sort of weatherproof bookshelf next to your chair to keep your weatherproof copies of LOTR in so you'll always have something appropriate to read in your glen.

Thanks ksen! It is a cool spot, feels very 'closed in' when I am out there, it is hard to capture that in the pics... I would like to go out there and sit, and see if maybe the doe and her fawns hang out there sometimes as I suspect. I cut one new path out to the pasture from it, and one other path that leads nowhere at all....
