Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The first season DVDs are scheduled to be released in February -- and then 1 season every other month. Is that for DS9? The first season of Babylon 5 is already available on DVD; list price is $100, but most places (Amazon) have it for ~$75. Haven't heard when the second season will be released... we're saving up our pennies!

Sounds like a
fun experience. I was lucky enough to find a theater with a midnight showing. Unfortunately, no line parties within reasonable driving distance.

Cool! I finished your cookies... I am going to bed now, talk to you in the morning!
To: HairOfTheDog
Good cookies?

Oops. That was the Amazon price for the DS9 sets. $99 is supposed to be the discount price. :-/ I usually wait for the price drops... although my bootleg library is missing some of the best episodes. Arghhh...
To: HairOfTheDog
Rose would like some cookies... (hint, hint)
Perhaps tomorrow will be less stressful... am going to bed here too!

Sure. I'm too young to have watched the original series. Gosh you folks are so YOUNG! I was in the 9th grade whent he series debuted. My English teacher DETESTED it!! I don't remember watching it that often. I wasn't ever a really big sci-fi fan, though I have enjoyed the ST and NG movies.

Tomorrow is going to be a big day! Our special edition thread comes out then, thanks to HairoftheDog!
We're being recognized!

Now you are gonna start? Well, speaking of Metamucil, we just watched The Matrix for the first time tonight. I think if I'd seen it before I would've also had a problem with Hugo being Elrond. As it is, I just think the movie Elrond's too snooty. I liked Haldir better in TTT (and no, g'nad, not JUST because he died...)

He was bein' rude to Corin. Thanks. That guy is a real jerk. I toned down my follow-up response to him, started it by calling him "doofus."
Not gonna let it worry me. Try to do a good deed and get peed on. Time to hit the showers and wash the world off!

G'nite all. Why am I still up?

Hair: Well, I'd like to respond on the other thread, but once through the interview and my web-tv sits there, wheels spinning and smoke billowing from the stack like the little engine that could.
So I'll have to raise my flagon of hard cider and say 'three cheers for Hair, Well done.'

From Tolkien Online:
Heres a small list of a few things from the book that will almost certainly be in ROTK next December. Theres been some questions about whether some locations from the books would be skipped by PJ and his team, but the book The Making of The Lord of the Rings gives us a little more insight.
- We will certainly see the Paths of the Dead in ROTK. The author of the book, Brian Sibley, has visited the miniature builders and claims he saw one of them work on the set of the Paths of the Dead. Exactly how the set will look, is not mentioned. However, Sibley does mention black polystyrene walls, with destroyed builings carved out of them, concisting of several stairs, doors, towers and domes.
- The Corsairs of Umbar, who attack the south of Gondor at sea in the book, will also most probably be featured in the film. The Making of the Lord of the Rings discusses a Corsair ship being built by a model maker, John Baster. The ship will have a lot of armour, inlcuding crossbows, arrows, and some sort of sharp edges on both sides to cut the ropes of enemy ships. This amazing model even features a skippers toilet at the very end of the ship!
- The large battering ram called Grond, used by the Orcs to attack Minas Tirith in the final book, will also appear in the film. Grond was made as a large wooden contruction with a scary wolf-like creature captured in it. His head is used as the battering ram. The wolf-like creature will look aggressive, almost like trying to escape. His mouth and eyes will be able to move, and he will be pulling his shackles.
- The room above the Cracks of Doom in the Orodruin mountain, where Frodo has to destroy the Ring, will be excessively shown in the final film. Obviously, it is a set featuring a lot of fire, explosions and lava.
- The Grey Havens, where all the Ringbearers finally leave Middle-earth, will have an architecture a bit similar to that of Rivendell and Lothlorien. Says Alan Lee (conceptual designer): However, the architecture is adjusted to buildings of stone, unlike the wooden builings of Rivendell.
- The Houses of Healing at Minas Tirith, where the wounded from the Field of Pelennor are taken care of, will also be in the film. But hey, I guess that was pretty obvious
The design will probably look a lot like Alan Lees impression: a small, peaceful courtyard with grass and trees, surrounded by nice archways.
- For the Battle of the Field of Pelennor, about 700 horsemen (and horses) were used, in addition the the hundreds of other soldiers. So this promises to be a big helluva battle, ey?

I'm trying to catch up. You guys sure did post a lot yesterday! Goodness!
Dawn, that pic. Too delicious- what a great way to start a morning. Thanks!
To: Wneighbor
I would think that that squabbling = elf envy. I concur. Might have to locate my Elf-envy song...

I liked Haldir better in TTT (and no, g'nad, not JUST because he died...) What? I thought that was his finest acting in the film...
The epitome of elven snootiness was the look on Haldir's face when Aragorn heartily embraced him upon his arrival at Helm's Deep... (like he was ever uncomfortable in the arms of a male...)
Huulo! Good morning all!

And let's face it folks, the dwarf bashers have been a lot more cruel lately. After all, they've been talking about the stature of the dwarves, not something easily changed. Bwahahahaaaaaaa! Oh that's priceless.

I thought that was his finest acting in the film... Oh, I agree. But I liked him and then he died well...
