Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

This may be the end of that drought they've been having here for 2 years. Whilst I was swimming this morning before church, I was thinking this "prayer." A little skeert to actually pray it...
Dear Lord, Remember that rain we asked for last summer? ENOUGH ALREADY! LORD, you promised Noah that you'd never flood the earth again.
I'm no sure you got much wiggle room left...

Missed it. Sonic commercial. Harvick is racing drinking from a Sonic cup. Says something over the car mike thanking the guys in the pits for the idea if installing a cup holder in the car. Camera pans out and there's this little young chickie in her Sonic uniform handing him the cup, with the look of terror on her face. Harvic says, "havin' fun yet?" She says, "NOOOO!!"
I would. I would strap in to be a cup holder. at least once. and i darned sure wouldn't admit it even if i did get skeered.

I get nervous when I see squirrels hopping around wearing water wings.

Well, moonshine would be a little less violent legend to have about my witch's circle! And perhaps the poor kids wouldn't get so freaked about camping there... Too late though, they already heard the first legend.I believe in moonshiners more than I do witches. Especially in the absence of symbols lined up on cardinal compass points.
Any chance that some of the trash you removed could have been the remains of a still?

Oh I've seen that.....what does that have to do with keeping lighthouses?
To: Corin Stormhands
This area isn't to that point yet. They say the lakes and reservoirs are still way below normal level. So, I guess we need a lot more. But, we've had more in a week than in the whole other time I lived here.

what does that have to do with keeping lighthouses? Nothing at all with lighthouses. It has to do with a random new job for you. Have you narrowed it down to ONLY lighthouses now?

You have squirrels with water wings and you're worried about a little hurricane?

The 'contemplative area' formerly known as the witch's circle is *done*. I will cut the grass maybe a couple more times, but mostly just let it recover now, rebuild the fire pit and it will be ready for summer campfires and company. I think I will look for some used wooden lawn furniture to move out there.

Little flowers that grow in the shadier grassy areas if I don't mow it too short.

This almost broke my heart. This is a nest on the ground that I mowed right over yesterday without noticing it! - Glad I didn't take the little guy's head off! But I have noticed now in hindsight that every time I walk through the gate, there are two birds that dart right in front of me, and today when walking by I saw this movement and RED. Little red mouth! I backed off and watched, and the parents are still tending it now even after going there one more time to get the pics, so I may not have disturbed it too much.

The location of it is at the red arrow. Luckily, I was only trimming the tall berries that were coming straight up there, and not trimming to the ground or I would have killed it before I knew it was even there.

I am glad that both parents seem to be still around. I am going to try to not go through there again now for several days and give them a break. I at least won't walk through there with the weed-wacker running like I have been.
Pinging especially the chicken people to see if you have any knowledge from chick experience how old this chick might be. I think those are flight feathers coming in, the little brown tufts that show on it are remaining soft fuzzy baby feathers. (I had to look real close to make sure they weren't wounds, but they aren't) By July will perhaps the little guy will be grown and not vulnerable to the kids and dogs that might come through? Luckily I haven't let Gidget go with me out there because of the bunnies.
I don't know birds very well, but the parents are those little brown sparrow/wren type birds. I am surprised they would nest on the ground, and I bet if I use this path this summer they will not build a nest THERE again.
Do they eat seeds? - If I tossed some bird seed out there as an apology present would that be a good idea or would it attract other birds that would not be wanted? - Perhaps I will put seed a ways away where they could eat while still within watching distance of the babe.

I believe in moonshiners more than I do witches. Having experienced the work of the former, and not the latter, I'm inclined to agree.
But a choice between the more evil of the two might just be a toss-up...

It has rained 8 out of the last 8 Saturdays. Heard yesterday that if the rain we got in the month of May had been snow, we would've had 100 inches...
