Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Black Hawk Down. Hands down winner. Ditomasso's a good friend of mine... got a Silver Star and a Purple Heart... kinda brings it home when you know guys that were there... Ditto didn't care for the movie... but from everything I've read or been briefed, it's about as close as any movie could come...
I just started watchin' the Band of Brothers series, they have the DVDs at the Library... I'm on the edge of my seat, body clenched during the combat scenes... they did a great job getting the feel and especially the sounds of combat... the only thing missing is the smell... I find I drink a little more watchin' 'em...

I'm back in the woods and it's been raining alot. Lots of skeeters 24/7. Ticks are worse this year than last too. No problem with chiggers though.

And this chair in the middle just seemed like a spot where one might sacrifice virgins! The place had kindof an eerie look about it, so, the place, the one place on the whole property the prior owner took care of, became the witch's circle.I suspect there was a moonshine still there, and the chair was built so the cookin' could be watched in comfort. That would also explain why that one area was kept cleared.
To: g'nad
yuh know, I wuz kickin' myself fer not takin' before and after pics of the land I'm clearin... We cleared obout three acres yesterdayPictures woulda been good! - 3 acres in a day! - Sure pays to have power equipment! I thought about letting the brush hog guy that is coming clear this witch's circle for me, but he can't get back there without really chewing up a new path in.

Morning all.
Had quite a bit of bad storming out last night. Good thing ought to be that with more siding damage and the house insurance adjuster not here yet I can combine catatrophes and not deductables!

Myranda's dad was a mechanic. Worked in grease/oil/gas all day. In 7 years of marriage, I never knew him to get a mosquito or red bug bite. We always attributed it to the petrochemicals.

Well, moonshine would be a little less violent legend to have about my witch's circle! And perhaps the poor kids wouldn't get so freaked about camping there... Too late though, they already heard the first legend.
Friend is a cop with three little kids, and they like to come and camp at that spot, let the kids run around and explore the woods and go on pony rides on Bay. I am like a dude ranch for them....
It is really a good excuse to sit around a campfire and drink beer, and get to camp with the kids in a spot where there isn't other people in a campsite ten feet away and if necessary, there is a bathroom down a path not too far away for the kids.

I can combine catastrophes and not deductables! Maybe you should wait a while! heh...
Forecast here for today includes no life-threatening weather.

In the same vein, my son-in-law has younger twin brothers - both career military as well. One of them (I always forget which) is in special forces, he was in that area also.

Maybe you should wait a while! heh... Thought about that myself! GMTA. ha
It would be nice to have ALL the siding and the roof replaced in one shot.

Eating the food. When I ate bananas during the summer, I couldn't stay outside for 15 minutes withouth getting at least 20 bites. I get a salt lick for the horses that supposedly makes them unattractive to bugs.... There aren't a lot of bugs here, so it might work. Don't know what it tastes like.
To: Wneighbor
Couple weeks and you might be able to get the whole house done!
To: HairOfTheDog
Maybe I should try eating raw garlic. I suppose I could get used to it...eventually. I like my garlic cooked most of the time.
Rain again today!

Brewer's yeast in dog food repels fleas they say....
