The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

g'nad, well, surprised no one has told you about it, some say it is a mythological beast (I'm not one of them) it most resembles a dragon (smaller version of Smaug) it most often is glimpsed (never fully seen) in the evening, about sundown or shortly thereafter, some say it is most often glimpsed through the bottom of an "Old Forester" bottle, illuminated by firelight. It is is omniverous but has a special delight in eating section corner monuments, hence the inability of world renown surveryors to locate property corners correctly anywhere it the Ozarks.

The Kharkagne is also the mascot of the U of Mo School of Forestry and proudly emblazoned on the back of our sweatshirts (or was during the late 60's when Susan and I attended said august educational institution. I believe the School of Forestry is now a part of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

But remember the Kharkagne, like the truth, is out there.

Exorcise it and you're good to go. Looks gorgeous!

Can any pastor do this or do I need a real priest?

Sounds worse than a snake!

G'nad, maybe you need to start packing the big gun.

I'm afraid I can't make it next week.

But, I'm guessing there haven't been any problems other than the look of the chair. It seems it doesn't bother you to go there.

I don't know anything about the Sea Biscuit one. But, I have definitely started liking pirates a lot better lately!

Unlike most everybody else here the last movie I went out to see was some movie with elves and hobbits and dwarves. LOL

Jeepers! - I hope they get this movie done on time! - They are still doing re-shoots this week!

Rings stars keep it casual

08 June 2003

In the films they are Middle-earth royalty - but on the streets of downtown Wellington Liv Tyler and Viggo Mortensen look decidedly more down to earth.

The Lord of the Rings stars are back in the country to film more scenes for the third and final instalment The Return of the King - and the Sunday Star-Times has this exclusive photograph from the movie, due for release in December.

The first films have grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide.

Mortensen was spotted padding bare foot around the city - ironically shopping for socks at camping store Gordons, with a top-secret copy of a script poking out of his backpack.

He said he was back in Wellington for a week to reshoot some scenes, and to catch up with the menu at his beloved late-night restaurant The Green Parrot.

Tyler was photographed later the same day returning to the Duxton hotel surrounded by several minders.

It is understood she had just completed filming her last scenes.

Tyler and Mortensen have been joined by Matrix star Hugo Weaving and hobbit Dominic Monaghan, who has taken to zipping around the capital in a powerful Mitsubishi Diamante.

A lot of it is that I'm way to cheap! The prices for movies are aweful. There isn't a cheapie theater here. There was a dollar show in Waco but I didn't go there either.

We did go a lot in the old town because of the drive-in movie being "near" our house. "Near" there was about 18 miles. And it was $5/ car load. Couldn't beat that. Get Myranda a friend or 2 and there was no better price for going out. About half the time they have double features. For $5!

Hmmmm. Viggo likes to be barefoot too. What do you think? Had we ought to pop into The Green Parrot for supper tomorrow? See if we "run into him?"

Got a stupid severe t'storm about 40 miles west and coming this way again. Dadblastit. 70 MPH winds and hail. I went ahead and shut my windows so I don't have to wake up and do it later.

I like that choice of LOTR shots that they put in the bottom right corner of the newpaper.

So, how is it you are doing these mosquito things?

Eating the food. When I ate bananas during the summer, I couldn't stay outside for 15 minutes withouth getting at least 20 bites. So I started eating citrus instead and I got bit less.

A week or so ago this guy at work won a fruit basket on "Health Day" at work, so he was unloading fruit. :) Anyway, I got the pinapple. When I started eating pineapple everyday it seemed like the number of bites went down again...less than 5 bites for an afternoon.

HAHAHAHA! So that's the reason fer all the roughly parallel cornerless fencelines I'm findin'?

Thanks fer the scoop... good intel... but I don't think too many folks 'round these particular parts can spell or even remotely pronounce "Kharkagne"... which ain't a bad thing...
