The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

ahhh. I missed out on the seedcake.

It came out all right both times and I managed to get the second one fluffier than the first. But since I had to substitute ingredients, I'm not sure how close I came to the "real" recipe.

Good Morning!

Okay, I'm slow, explain the thing about the raisins and yeast. I don't get it.

Raisins are supposed to be a good feedstock for fermenting, and the yeast is used to get the fermentation going. I've never tried it, but that's what I heard.

As g'nad said, they keep an eye out for stuff like that in packages. Raisins by themselves might be a good treat, though.

As for playing cards, the guys over there probably don't have any "Saddam" playing cards. The good decks, made by American Playing Card, are common in the USA now. We need to send him a few decks, since they probably have never seen the "official" one.

Ewww...the office on Saturday. I'm afraid poor Frodo is majorly bored. It's raining again: not very suitable weather for Flat Frodo.

...and here is Frodo beside my houseplant. Frodo beside the cat who is trying to hide under a blanket...Frodo watching TV....Frodo setting the table. Some adventure!

*yawn*

Good morning! Stayed out late at the Friday night jam...lots of people there last night.

Doesn't look very promising out there. We're playing at a campground tonight, as I've mentioned...I don't know how outdoors that is. Even if there's a roof, it may be chilly!

We still haven't practiced. I hope this isn't super embarrassing.

Maybe I should have a picture of Frodo helping me build an ark. We've only had two days this week where it wasn't raining after work. The first one I spent with the HVAC guy and the Real Estate lady and the second one was spent having the car serviced.

The usual plan is to go to The House and do some gardening. Thought I might take Frodo to discover small town America...but since it's raining....

Maybe I should just play with the abc software.

Ha!

It hasn't been THAT bad here...but it's alternating between raining and being warm and so humid that Thursday night as I walked to my car, I could see my breath even though it had to be in the sixties.

Which means my grass is growing so fast I can't keep up, and since I keep mowing it in a hurry, I've missed bits here and there. Looks like a really bad haircut.

Let me know where you get with the abc software!

73 outside.... prolly still 80 inside.

Heh. We're here complaining about all the rain (yes, again today and another game rained out), and you're complaining about the heat. It must be the end of the world.

Still, in August when it's 105 in the shade here, I won't have too much sympathy for your 93 degrees...

But anyway, hello. Good morning. Slept in 'cause I could. Game was called off. Going to Virginia Beach in a few ours with my b-i-l to pick up some furniture my aunt is giving us.

We're not even getting paid for this one. Something I didn't find out until my brother signed us up. It's really just a more formal open mic - performers come and play for free for half an hour or so, just as a way of getting their names out there. He signed us up for three weekends...and of course, I'm the one that's gotta drive. So I'm losing money on gas and not earning anything, and have much of my summer tied up where weekends are concerned. < /whine >

Let me know where you get with the abc software!

I've got the midi file and found the mini2abc file. I downloaded some software with a gui interface to run that file but haven't tried it yet. No doubt it will tell me I'm missing some bit of software for it to run correctly. :)
