The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Italian Nachos are about Myranda's favorite as well. Except the bread with herbed olive oil.
I hope she's lurking now. She'd be hungry.
guess not, it's 3:30 AM there.
Well, I doubt I'll talk to Tom. I will ask Jill. She should know.

Only because the house was filling up with second hand smoke of a nature that was bothering me. I have a sore throat now. And I like to smell 2nd hand cigarette smoke. It was very very strong.

Hehehe....back in the dawn of the Hobbit Hole, we hobbits were always talking about pints and seedcakes. Someone (2J, I think) found a recipe that had been adapted from a Renaissance recipe. I made it twice trying to get the maximum rise out of it. The problem was that the local grocery store didn't carry cracked wheat!
To: Corin Stormhands
Did I get mixed up or doesn't g'nad do a little of that?

Not that anyone would think about checking EVERYWHERE for homebrew...maybe they could hide the homebrew next to the WMDs...

Eh, it didn't turn out well, but I did an excellent job in the interviews and for that I'm really happy. There's just no way I'm going to agree to do a job that big and that difficult for such meagre compensation -- a 40% pay cut from my last position. I let them know that...and I suspect it doesn't matter that much to them overall. They'll get a young person who'll do it for that money and those conditions, and they'll either get lucky or they won't. And they're lucky or not won't matter that much to them either.
If I'm going to have to work that "cheap" for the rest of my work days, I might as well do it at something much lower stress and requiring less hours than that job would. Heck, I suspect I can work that cheaply here (eventually)...and not spend the money moving myself!
To: Wneighbor
WN; that's a real personal preference, the flavor and the cut; some pipe smokers puff occasionally others continuously, generally the finer the cut, the hotter and with more bite (not a good thing) it'll burn with an enthusiastic smoker opposed to a more sedate puffer.
I'd check with SIL to get a read on the stuff him and boys like, but given a limited supply and lack of options, a fella would likely make do with darn near anything that would burn.

What are you guys doin' out eatin' the lawn? In the south it's called "Dinner on the Ground."
That's a southern church-ism for "pot luck dinner."

I have a kiddie pool too, but Gidget doesn't voluntarily go in it.... We've talked about getting one for Sam. But he's a water dog that doesn't like to get his feet wet.

Eh, it didn't turn out well, but I did an excellent job in the interviews and for that I'm really happy. Well that's good. The practice of going thru the interview can't hurt.

To: Corin Stormhands
Okay, I am caught up.
Now what do I do?
