The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

...what you are loosing in fat weight, you are picking in muscle weight

I know. It's just sometimes it gets a little discouraging when the scale appears to be stuck. But I can definitely tell the muscle difference.

No need to go under the knife unless you absolutely have to, IMHO.

Agreed! No need to end up looking like Carnie Wilson. ;)

I bet Jr. would like 'em, too - they aren't much older than he is. The biggest Nickle Creek fans in my family are my younger siblings.

Speaking of which, the youngest turns 13 today. *snif*

Drinking the 8-10 glasses of water is also key. Perhaps because the more time you spend in the bathroom the less time you have to spend staring into the fridge...

You wanna spend a lot of time in the bathroom? Try eating a whole cantaloupe for lunch!

Yeah, but Al Roker is lookin' good...

Still knowing the problems it cause my dad, as well as knowing couple of people who had it and gained their weight back I had way too many concerns about the procedure.

I need to lose around 15 pounds.

I've seen you. You don't need to lose ANY weight.

Heh...seems I can't escape...guy just posted on the mandolin list I'm on asking for someone's e-mail address, and ended with this remark:

Sorry for this interruption. We can return to bashing castillian elves, or whatever it was we were doing.

Yes, and don't freak out about fat. You body is designed to metabolize it (you're part carnivore after all). Your body requires it. Many essential vitamins are 'fat soluble' and only found in animal products. Fats are precursors to hormones which have huge impacts on your feelings. Threre's a lot of research available on fats and health. This site is a good starting point. I'm familiar with both authors' work- they're credible.

I'll ask Jr. if he's heard of them. If he hasn't more than likely he wouldn't like them because I would...

Sigh...did I mention he's decided he wants to play football instead of do marching band? Went and signed himself up! without talking to us.

We're still working on him. What he doesn't realize is that he won't play. He'll just sit on the bench next year when they have to take everyone on the team (9th grade team) and then he won't make the JV team.

It's not that we want to deny him the experience of high school football. It's just that we think he's got a better shot with band.

know what you mean...while the scale is "stuck", you might want to rely on measurements for a time. watch the inches come off while the scale says you've lost little or no weight.

I saw Carnie on an interview the other night. She is really fixated on food.

The problem isn't her stomach, it's her mind!

you might want to rely on measurements for a time.

Well, since January I'm down 6 inches in pant size. I think now that I'm back on the diet the pounds will start dropping again.

The way my trainer explained it was that the more defined the muscles are the better they will be at burning fat and calories when working out. I think I can sense that while I'm swimming.

Yeah, that's true Kevin, Ruthy looks fine.

But if you wanted to, Ruthy, these things are the best and easiest way to do it I've run accross, very un Cuban, however, no beans and rice, no plantains, nor Cuban bread.

But they work, and even make you feel better, IMO.

I truly love it when a low fat vs. low carb discussion gets going on the breaking news threads, the arguments and flames are truly awesome.

I see a lot of folks eat only lo-fat and fat-free foods, but still can't lose a pound. That's why I keep looking at Atkins or something like it. That's a program that shows results every time!

Awesome in the original sense, no?

I've lurked on a few of those threads!

Another thing that makes it easy, when you eat enough fat, you are just not hungry for quite awhile afterwards.
