Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Would be even more fun to teach those that don't!Oh, goodness, I would love it...
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes! That would be fun. One of my friends has invited me over this summer to her house for shooting lessons... her dad is one of those NRA safety teacher types and has offered to give us the basics, anyway.
I respect guns, but I've never been around them. I think perhaps I should learn...

I was packin' the wife's Rossi 971... stainless steel, 4' bbl, adjustable sights... a solid beater revolver...(I got it for her for Christmas 10 years ago...)
I'da been packin' my Ruger Redhawk .44... 5 1/2 inch bbl, adjustable sights, but I haven't got a good gunbelt yet... I ordered one, and it'll be here in a few weeks... Westbound leather is makin' me a Mexican Loop "Duke" model...
Yes Sam... I pack everywhere around here... our property is on what the locals call, "Rattlesnake Ridge"... neighbor killed a seven footer on his porch two weeks ago... I wouldn't pack an auto doin' chores... a revolver is my choice...

Would be even more fun to teach those that don't!I would go for that! I've thought about starting the learning process, now that MN has a concealed-carry law. Haven't fired a gun for about 12 years now.
To: Sam Cree
What've you got, G'nad? I ain't got the time... ;o)
To: JenB
A quick look shows that Florida has pretty easy gun law... My CWP isn't reciprical, but they don't require a permit to transport a stored or unloaded gun, so it would be very doable if folk are interested!
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, I think we should definitely find out if there's a range or something nearby. This is getting exciting.
Probably we oughta have orc targets.
To: g'nad
"I ain't got the time... ;o)"
Ok...cool...
To: JenB; g'nad; Sam Cree
Is it legal to bring them to EntMoots? I dunno. Transportin' across state lines. Airports. etc.
g'nad and Sam might know better.
To: Sam Cree; ksen
But maybe there's a range nearby we could go too? ksen! - Wanna see if there is a good pistol range nearby where we could have a shooting day? - Either a commerical range open to the public... or, 'round here some of the local police dept ranges are open to the public some days and are good safe places to go.
To: Corin Stormhands
Can't you just put them in the suitcases that get shipped through?

Guns are fine in checked baggage.
To: JenB
er...yer askin' the wrong boy
To: g'nad
So, you figure there's less chance of a revolver going off if there's a shock? What with the hammer being obviously already down?
To: Sam Cree
Probably we oughta have orc targets. Like Hillary.
To: g'nad
Good shooting. Are ya going to eat it?
Growing up we always had rattlesnakes come through the yard and Dad would get them with snakeshot. Rattlesnakes have the decency to let you know they're not only there but feeling cranky, too. I can respect that. Those copperheads, tho. *shudder* Sneaky bastards.
Interestingly, our cats played a huge role in guarding us kids. They'd get the snake buzzing and sit just out of striking distance until Dad came with the gun. They got to play with the body, sans head of course, as a reward.
To: HairOfTheDog
Better yet, a range that can accomodate long guns too. Then we could bring in the artillery.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hair: "It can be a dangerous thing, stepping out of one's door..."
Did JRRT not mention this? :-)
To: HairOfTheDog; g'nad; Sam Cree
I should know that 'cause the NRA used to do an event at the meetings I planned.
I'm afeared it'll tarnish my dwarf image, but I don't own a gun. After dwarf-moot I mentioned it to the Mrs....once.
She don't like no guns. But I've talked to my b-i-l about it and we're gonna start goin' to the range (and take Jr.).
I don't hunt (and never will). But I think the day is coming when we'll need them for personal protection.
To: osagebowman
Very dangerous indeed, stepping out your door!
