The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Sorry to whine...I know today hasn't exactly been easy for you!

You aren't whining! We are all here for you.

Actually my day hasn't been too bad. Emotional yes, but that's not always a bad thing. These were good emotions.

On the 2 hour drive home from the airport I was reflecting about the Hobbit Hole again. When I first posted last winter I was really concerned about what my reaction was going to be toward this time that I've had this weekend. Being in a new town, with no friends forming a support group was kind of weighing heavily on me. Somehow, I just thought that at least reaching into the Hobbit Hole might be a good way to kind of bridge this transition period that people have started calling empty nest. I usually don't fit into those normal modes but I was a little concerned about getting a life for myself outside working and mama-ing so that this didn't hit me hard.

So, driving back and reflecting was really good. I feel like this is one of the most positive upbeat things in my life. Sure, I have had some tight heartstrings leading into this, I do miss her already and I expect I will always a little. But, gee, don't mean to brag but I've raised 2 of the most awesome individuals any of us could meet and I'm very glad and comforted to know that I've sent out contributing, God-loving, patriotic adults into society. Looking around - especially now that I'm doing this college teaching - I don't really see too many young adults as prepared to be contributing, functioning members of society. I know it was a whole lot of God and only a little bit of hit and miss with me, but, I'm proud of what I sent out. So, I don't see how I can not be very joyeous about it.

And the thing that really prompted me to respond to you with that information is that from everything I know about you, you are another one of those exceptional examples of young adults. I mean, how many of the people with whom you graduated from high school and college Rosie actually have careers going on, are purchasing a home ON THEIR OWN, have taken on care of another life - Fiona is one of those you know. All that we know about your life is just way above the level of normal day to day responsibility for adults younger than me now-days. I think you are a fine example of a well-balanced, self-sufficient young woman. I am very proud to know you here and talk to you (almost) daily. I feel like that if we lived in the same town you would be someone I would be very honored to have as a hanging out friend. (even if you are closer to my older daughter's age.)

My daughter came up after church and helped a bit, and he must be one of the ones in there, because there are no eggs hatching from the wrong end and no dead ones.
Another just hatched a few minutes ago:)

I didn't go away that mad! I think Her Majesty would be more entertained with JarJar and Roy. :)

And as to the Harry Potter thing: it's pretty certain the author is going to kill off one or more major characters...

I'm way late in getting back to this, but I'd heard it was going to be Ginny Weasly or is that later?

Hey!!

I'll meet you here, first thing in the morning and we'll decide what to do then...

We've been working on our coop! It's just a "chicken tractor" but I think it looks nice! I'll be back later and post pictures.

Yep.... Horses will always be able to go places that machines can't.

Yes, but we dwarves know the mines are no place for a pony. Even one as fine as Bill...

Well, I'll post this before I funkle.

Busy day. Had to have Jr. at church at 7:30 a.m. Youth Choir sang both services. We got home a little after one, had a quick lunch and got him to the game on time at 2:15 (for a 3:00 game). They won, but the game ran long (there's an hour and 45 minute time limit on these games, but they started late). So we left the field at 5:05, rushed home, got changed (all four of us) and got him to the church at 5:30 for the 6:00 concert.

Concert was great. Unfortunately, there was no childcare, and Luke still hasn't learned when not to talk (you'd think he would've learned since the movie last night...). Concert again tomorrow night. M-i-l and s-i-l will be here, but Mrs. has to work. We're getting a sitter.

May be back on later. Not sure.

Um, nobody really knows. I don't think Ginny's gonna die. That just doesn't seem to fit. I think it's going to be adults, and maybe Dobby-the-annoying-house-elf-which-is-noithing-like-a-real-elf.

Just finished my rereads... those were good. I went looking for info on the new book and there isn't much. Mostly stuff we knew. Also the book is 900 pages long. And it's supposed to be full of revelations and info to set up the last two books. Good. There's too much she's been holding out on us.
