Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Should I let her take Frodo to Manteo? She's got a gig there this week.
To: HairOfTheDog
Sister says she'd prefer Flat Aragorn.
To: Overtaxed
What kind of a gig? - at a safe place? - Where he wouldn't draw too much attention to himself? ;~D

Wanted to reply to your last night posts... my sibs went to see Finding Nemo Friday. I did not go. I've seen enough kids movies to last until I have children of my own. That said, they enjoyed the film. I just don't like fish, I guess.
And as to the Harry Potter thing: it's pretty certain the author is going to kill off one or more major characters, but for various reasons I think it's going to be Dumbledore or Remus Lupin, not Sirius Black.
Some of that might be wishful thinking. Got to go dry my hair for church.

Sister says she'd prefer Flat Aragorn. Flat Aragorn would be different game....
To: HairOfTheDog
A symphony gig. Safe how? I think Mr. Frodo would draw attention to himself wherever he went. :)
To: Overtaxed
I she will take him, it is up to you where he goes!
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh nevermind. She doesn't want to take him anywhere unless I'm there....I guess so she can tell everyone that I'm the one who's nutty!
To: HairOfTheDog
You're gonna hit the bit 40000 while I'm at church, aren't you?

Well, I don't know that it had anything to do with West Nile, or it was just a stupid bird, but last week a pigeon or dove, I can't tell which, flew into the picture window in my dining room. It killed the bird! Birds see a reflection of the sky in the glass, and fly into the window. I have the same problem, although the birds usually just bounce off without harm.
I've been able to cut down on the number of bird strikes by buying vinyl hawk silhouette to stick near the top of each window. As the bird takes off, usually when startled, it glances at the window, and sees what looks like the shadow of a hawk diving down at it, and veers away.
The silhouettes cost about $3 each, and you should have one for each window, even though I don't. They look a little weird from inside the house, but they do cut down on the frequency of bird strikes. And if a bird still hits, it's usually at a slower speed, because it was trying hard to put on the brakes and swerve.

I bet Flat Frodo misses Flat Sam. :)
Your Frodo gives sister a start everytime she goes through the living room. "There's some guy in there!"
To: Overtaxed
He was a bit startling when he is first in a room! He used to give me a start when I walked in the door.
To: HairOfTheDog
Flat Aragorn would be different game.... Gamey, certainly.

FORTY
THOUSAND POSTS?
(Can you say OCD?)
Oh BTW.... Off The Subject. Do you know what "Zip-Zaps" are? I just ordered 2 of them.
Those are the little RC cars, right? The real little ones from RS? Those are neat. My dog would go crazy over those.
Your buying and I just retired my Big Trak (sniff) It just wasn't "Big" enough to cut the mustard anymore.. So it's gone off to that big dusty shelf in the sky..
Here's the first prototype:

I had to re-work it though, the second one is still in the welding jig. But it's very similar.
It's going to hold 16 LBS of sealed lead acid batteries in the bottom, features ball bearing & half floater axles, chain drive and (will have) a hand laid fiberglass body with hacked Rainbow parts for the vac and power head.
My dog is going to absolutely lose her ******* mind over this.
To: HairOfTheDog
Jhoffa... I know you know how to be decent.
Heresy!
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Should I help???We didn't go to church...so I'm home. My chickens in the backyard book discusses this and if you want, you can give me a call and I'l tell you what it says.
It's a great book, btw. Easy to read and pretty funny!
