The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I took the pickup to Sam's between the graduation and the supper to get 2 new tires.

That blowout might have been a 'nudge' from God! It made you go back to Sam's, didn't it?

Oh, but I have seen some UFOs.

You know, I was thinking after we met, that you and my neighbor in the old town - not W, another neighbor - would really get along well. He has recorded himself 4 UFO sightings in Mosheim, Texas. We ought to get ya'll together so you can talk UFO sightings. and other things...

Seems there was a little party that got busted last night and all those seniors were drinking and are in jail.

Makes you want to smack em upside the head and ask "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING??!!"

You could be right about the blowout. It could also be God's little way of bringing out my sense of adventure today. Mac and me changing that tire was honestly the most fun I've had today. It would have made a funny video too I think.

Well, it seems like to me after what happened at prom, they just seem to be stupid???? Could be they aren't even bright enough to graduate in Texas Public Schools. don't know, just a guess. But, there is rationality in it.

Wneighbor; That was some fall, everyday is a blessing isn't it. It was so amazing to read those few words-"since I broke my neck"-Susan turned to me and said-"Its about time to share your story"-Thanks for prompting me to tell my story.

You're welcome. I am glad you told your story. I know from mine that God really is in the miracle working business today. Lot's of folks like to try to explain it away with medical miracles and stuff, but even the gifted doctor that got me through it totally attributes my well-being today to God. I'm glad. It's nice to give Him credit. He's done so much for me and you.

So, how did your candy bars go over?

Nah, not a whole lot. We sold a couple last night, but the Anime Club had laid in a lot of snacks so there was lots of competition. Today, we sold a couple but it was the Yard Sale stuff that was the draw. We're going to sell at a local grocery store next Sat. and the Sat. after.

I'm also gonna make up a bunch of Krispy Bars and SSQ will take them to work. He sold 80 candy bars (not homemade) for Joseph a couple of weeks ago for the Boy Scouts, so he should be able to do the same for Clare.

Unfortunately I don't have the new shoes scheduled yet. My farrier hasn't called me back. He never calls back. He has this greeting on his answering machine that sounds like he doesn't know how to use his answering machine. Called yesterday and today, Yesterday I left a message, today I just hung up. Will try him tomorrow too till I get him!

Is this something that you know your farrier will know how to do? Or is this something that would require special training or instruction from the vet? Or is it something all reputable farriers would know?

They're not telling the whole story of West Nile

Well, I don't know that it had anything to do with West Nile, or it was just a stupid bird, but last week a pigeon or dove, I can't tell which, flew into the picture window in my dining room. It killed the bird! He must have bounced right off the glass and hit the ground. I didn't know it until I happened to look down from that window last week and saw a pile of feathers! I thought a cat that has been hanging around the house had attacked one of the birds that pecks around on the ground below the feeder, but the kids told me they thought the bird had flown into the window. I looked at the window, and sure enough, there's this big grease spot a little over halfway up. Felt bad for the bird.

Well, that sounds fun, but mine are pretty boring... just little lights darting around in the night sky.

One of my uncles claimed to have seen Bigfoot while out fishing.

I'm listening to old-timey country music, waiting for some neighborhood boys to come over and mow the lawn... hit 100 yesterday and will likely do the same today.

Say, we had a little cool front come through about 8 AM. Yesterday it was up to 102. Today it was pleasantly in only the upper 80's.

Nah, the girls are going to try to sell them next Sat. at the grocery store and Sunday at the local Congregational Church's Family Fun Day. The only new ones I'm making are the bars that are going to work with SSQ.

Yes, I'm going to Mississippi next week. I fly out on Wed. morning and back the following Tues. night. I have SO much to do before I leave. I need to do Lesson Plans so the kids will know what work they have to do while I'm gone, and I've got Girl Scout Leader Training on Tues. night. It's gonna be a busy three days!

I may not be on much cause my sister has dial up and it's slow loading, plus, I'll want to visit with the girls!

He will know how to do this better than the vet would, actually! Every farrier knows how to shoe a Navicular horse, but there are a few different options, I don't know which my farrier's preference is, I would trust his judgement on this. Either a bar across the back of the shoe to give him something of a heel, or wedge pads under the shoe that sit him up off of his heels, and a rounder toe so his foot breaks over sooner and easier moving.

Well, that's good to know about the shoeing. I had wondered about that. --- LOL because of course since I haven't heard of this no one else probably has either. Okay, laugh me off the thread for the night now. We all know about my ZERO experience with horses!!!
