Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I think it must be too wet here to have very many ticks. They are really uncommon here. I have pulled two off of a dog in my whole life, and have spent a lot of time in the woods. We are just not their region I guess!
To: HairOfTheDog
You're lucky. I've never seen a tick in my yard, fortunately, but the bunnies I sent over the river today had them in their ears...so I know they are there.
Joshua had one in the upper inner fold of his leg after one of our fishing trips last weekend. He was in the tub and said he had a spider biting him and it wouldn't let go. I went in and he commenced to screaming bloody murder. I got it off him without tearing it up, but it took him a while to calm down. His one biggest fear is spiders.

The "flower bed" I want to work on today is the one that is behind Gidget in the jump shot at the base of the tree. There is kind of a river-rock border there and it is nothing but weeds. I am gonna clean it out and plant something there this year I think.
Or get rid of it.... haven't decided. It has looked like that since I got here.
To: HairOfTheDog
Caladiums would be nice there, in the shady area... Low maintenance too.

Ticks were horrible here till we got chickens. They still are if you go anywhere off my property.
I still won't have a long haired dog. Just too hard to keep them off. Susie still come up with a tick on her occasionally, but I think that is because she goes off on the property next door.
When I take the horses to different places I always have to pull them off their legs. Ticks are bad.

I dunno. We've had a very wet spring this year and the ticks are worse than they were last year during the drought.
To: 2Jedismom
I think I am lucky for a lot of reasons living here! - No life-threatening weather, no ticks.

Becky: I didn't catch if you had seen LOTR at the movies or at home; The extended version of LOTR is more complete than the theater version, the extended version is highly recommended. The movies are a wonderful adaptation of the books and complement each other well but there is much more to books than the movies.

Huh.... never pulled one off a horse. I don't know why we don't have *many* of them! - They are around because Zulu got one once, and the cat once. I picked the one off of Zulu and held it in my hand, and it ~wiggled~ at me. Scared the living daylights out of me, I had never seen one before, and I threw it up in the air. Trouble was, I was in the living room, and I couldn't find it again. I sprayed so much poison in that room I am surprise any of us survived! I was freaked that I didn't know where the little bugger was! (The rest of the hobbit hole has heard that story before!)
To: HairOfTheDog
Hair; great photos, nice place, super animals. Thanks for posting.

To: osagebowman
Heh - thanks! - That cat is really brutal to the dog. We have so screwed up the natural order of things by training dogs not to chase cats. Cats can't handle the power responsibly! ;~D

But I panicked.
To: 2Jedismom
Mmmm. Coffee! I'll have to wait for a bit on the coffee. Just got back from Ruby Tuesday's Restaurant. We went out for Paul's 'Graduation' Dinner! We are just stuffed!!
I'll make some coffee and have it during the movie, later. We're gonna watch The Insider.

We used to put them in an ashtray and burn them with a match, when I was little.

Cubs win!

Hair:Hmmm. No ticks, that would be a real treat, a walk in the woods and nothing crawling on you. Sounds nice.
The ticks are a fact of life around here, same with chiggers but mosquitos aren't so bad as up north or down south. Every region seems to have its own set of challenges.
To: osagebowman
We saw the extended version. It was very good, but I still want to read the books.
