The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

not really a casserole, but wife has a good stuffed squash recipe if you like onions, sour cream, spinach and red wine vinegar...

Yes, it's a summer squash. I usually boil it and add a lot of butter, but my favorite way to eat it is to batter it and deep fry it like onion rings, then eat it with ranch dressing! MMmmm

It is definitly OK with me for you to have 2 of the chicks. The only problem I see is I can't tell till their 4 wks old if they are hen or rooster. If you take two Mon. you may land up with a rooster, I will be happy to switch with you, but at 4 weeks old will they still make good pets?

Steve went out and poured pyrethrum all over the area. Any other suggestions?

Carbaryl. It's in Sevin and flea powder so you could just treat the area with Sevin.

LOL! This is going to be the problem. I think we'll just take two and hope for the best.

I wonder why that is? Most vegetables they don't even recognize as food, but I cut into a squash and Tam comes running! He loooooves roasted chestnuts, too. Go figure.

Glad you LOL about it:). I am going to start another batch as soon as this one is done. If you get a rooster you can start again in a few weeks. If that doesn't work, I'll just send you home with the incubator and a batch of eggs, that way you would surely get some hens:)

Some info here
The success of flea control on animals depends upon eliminating infestations in kennels, beneath buildings, and in barns, yards, and other places frequented by infested animals. First, remove litter, manure, or debris, and spray or dust the affected area. Sprays are best for large-scale treatment.

Insecticides that can be used for this purpose include carbaryl (Sevin), diazinon, malathion, methoxychlor, andpropoxur (Baygon). Before using any of these insecticides always read and follow label directions and precautions.

Insecticides available for outdoor flea control by professional pest control operators only include:chlorpyrifos (Dursban), fenthion (Baytex), propoxur(Baygon), bendiocarb (Ficam), and dioxathion (Deltic).

Good morning everyone and WELCOME BACK SAM AND KSEN!

The Hobbit Hole wasn't the same without all of the guys, that's for sure! *grin*

On to breakfast before I am deafened by the sound of grumbling stomachs! LOL!

I've fried up some juicy steaks and eggs...

And OT's hash browns are ready on the hot plate and there's a big ol' pot of grits on the stove.

8 platters of bacon, sausage patties and ham slices are on the table, along with fresh baked buttermilk biscuits.

Coffee is ready and juices are chilled. ENJOY!

LOL, Oh yeah, that was what I meant, I would take any you don't want. But actually I didn't think you would want to mess with hatching a whole batch. Of course you could just hatch a few, but turning eggs 3 times a day for 21 days can get old.

I just thought of something. I don't know if you can get such a thing, but is there anyway for you to get hold of buff orpinton fertilized eggs from somewhere? I mean can you get eggs like you do chicks to hatch yourself?

Since talking to you the other day about The Hobbit, I have been reading it with a different perspective, and it seems to me the only charater being developed to any degree so far is Mr. Baggins. and I am starting to like the little guy. Is he in LOTR?

He just went up the tree to see how far the forrest goes.. they all just left Beorn's house (he was pretty cool guy), Bomfur is asleep from falling in the river, and Gandalf has left. I think I remember from the first 15 minutes that I watched LOTR...isn't Gandalf in it too?

mornin' all... beauty day here... sunshine and warm temps...

we had a wren make her nest under our deck... the dwarvlings have enjoyed the egg watch, now a hatchling vigil thru the cracks...

tore out some old fence and barbed wire yesterday and hauled it to a neighbors landfill... backbreaking tedious job... I don't recommend it...

going to a nearby Mennonite community to pick strawberries this morning... I'll check in later...

Thanks fer breakfast Ruthy...

Sam, sorry I've neglected to ping you the last few days... purely unintentional... need to get an address list made up...
