Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm looking at the possibility of you having some 2-legged kids someday, Hair! You'd need more house and less land then. :)

I have never changed a diaper and babies scare the daylights out of me! It isn't the mess certainly.... I have cleaned up worse messes on animal butts.
But babies immediately fuss when I hold them. I don't know how to communicate with babies I guess.... tiny babies don't like me, but older kids do.
To: RMDupree
I just could not get the thing to fit right. At least I didn't stick him with any pins.
To: HairOfTheDog
I think you got the strong wimmin part, but where you gonna get the scary?
To: HairOfTheDog
If babies scare you, that's why they fuss. Their instincts are much more finely tuned than older folks. I was very intimidated by infants until I had my own, but when my nephew came around, I had no choice but to adapt!
Next time you get trapped with a baby, treat her or him like a small and frightened pup and you'll see the difference in their behavior. I treated newborn Daniel like that and guess what?
Worked for me!

Ahem.... I am getting beyond the preferred age window for starting from scratch!
.... will have to adopt some older kids to work the farm... maybe I can make a side income reforming kids from youth detention facilities. I will practice scaring them.

I'd be lost if someone handed my a cloth diaper to use as anything but a burp cloth, to tell you the truth. I have no clue how to put them on as diapers!

Steve was adament that we would use cloth diapers. He would go off to work and Matthew would soil a diaper about ever 15 minutes. He was getting raw. I was exhausted. But Steve was determined we would use the cloth. So the minute he went to work, I'd switch Matthew into Luvs. One day, Steve "caught" Matthew in them. I didn't think anything of it, but Steve didn't speak to me for three days. After three days of trying to figure out what he was was unhappy about, he finally told me it was because I didn't use the cloth diapers.
I hit the ever-lovin' roof. Actually, I believe it was my very first shock and awe. Steve just stood there with him mouth open.

Cloth diapers! *GASP!* Absolutely. I have never changed a cloth diaper and I'm too old to learn now.
Couple of years ago we went to a party for the leaders of my wife's wimmin's Bible study. They did one of those "who did this" games. You know, who was a cheerleader, who was in band, etc. etc.
They had a question on there "who has never changed a diaper?"
Sure enough there was a man there who never had, and he was in his 60s. Had something like 4 kids and I don't know how many grandkids.
To: RMDupree
No I don't.... it isn't like I even have the guy in place yet! - Time's a wastin!
To: HairOfTheDog
You're gonna love Joshua.

...maybe I can make a side income reforming kids from youth detention facilities. That's right. I'm sposed to send Jr. to you this summer ain't I?
To: 2Jedismom
I am sure I will!
To: Corin Stormhands
Can I practice scarin' him?
To: RMDupree; HairOfTheDog
You've still got years before that window closes, Hair! Preach it sister! Can I get a witness?
oh wait, I am a witness...
To: HairOfTheDog
Can I practice scarin' him? Ain't no use sendin' him if'n you don't...
To: 2Jedismom
I've noticed that the people who promote / advise using cloth diapers have rarely done it themselves. Usually it's men, or environmentalist feminazis who never intend to have kids, or interfering busybodies who have the "help" do it.
