Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

When it's friends or family, you can always say "Wash your hands first!" and they usually don't get offended.
But it's really frustrating to tell a stranger the same thing and they look at you like you're a nutjob!
I had the same problem with people touching my belly when I was pregnant! Strangers!!! Just walk right up and rub. Little old ladies didn't bother me so much, but any man and...*shudder*

They're building up immunities!
My kids would need a lot of immunities.

Well, that's one less person I have to worry about hogging g'nad's baby at Entmoot! ;-) The way it usually goes is people ask me if I want to hold the baby. I hold the baby and get stuck when the poop hits the diaper.
To: Overtaxed; RMDupree
Don't look at me! I don't volunteer to hold no babies!I have no intentions of providin' another one to be held...
To: Overtaxed
OT - I consider you a friend and would let you hold my kids any time! LOL!
Now, I wouldn't force you either! I have a few friends of mine that are not comfortable holding babies at all! Too afraid to break 'em!

Ruh Roh! We pretty well took our boys everywhere. Well, that's not true, there were times we didn't (weather and depending on the occasion).
But about a month after we took Luke home we went out to a restaurant. We got some mighty strange looks. Even at almost 3 months old, he was so tiny he looked like a newborn.
To: 2Jedismom
My rule (right or wrong) has always been that the first three months are the "danger zone". This is the worst possible time for the baby to get sick, especially if the mom isn't breastfeeding!
IMHO, it's bad for mommy to be out within the first 3 months postpartum also, since sleep deprivation and poor eating habits can weaken her immunity too. If mommy gets sick, guess who's next?!

I hold the baby and get stuck when the poop hits the diaper. You can hold Jr. at Entmoot. He's potty-trained.
To: RMDupree
Just don't ask me to change diapers. I can deal with the mess, I just can't get the fresh one to fit right.

me too.
I was seriously reconsidering my career dream of running a boarding stable, being that teenage girls and their high-priced horses are the cat-birdseed of the horse boarding business.
Then I remembered that all the places where I boarded horses as a teenager had really strong scary wimmen that ran them. They scared the daylights out of me from the day I arrived. Now I know that scaring all of us was very much part of the plan and vital to maintaining peace and order!

I don't know a single mom that would ask a friend to change a diaper for her! Especially a nuclear-waste ridden diaper!
My best friend Alicia always does it without asking, but since I do the same with her kids, it's a fair deal.
My youngest sister, Roxy, will NOT touch a diaper for ANY reason. I don't know how she'll manage when she has kids of her own! I plan on sitting back and laughing my head off when the first "bomb" arrives!

There was this guy at my church that I used to go to...not the current one...and he used to feel like he had the right to wrap his arm around me every time he saw me! He did it to everyone!
Finally, one day, he walked up to me, wrapped his arm around me and said something to me. I listened attentively to what he had to say and when he finished I looked him right in the eyes and said "I don't think I know you well enough for you to be wrapping your arm around me." He nearly died! He jerked his arm off me and started to apologize, which I assured him was unnessesary...we got along fine after that, but he never touched me again!
I don't like people touching me without knowing me really well first. Guys used to do it in high school and I never cried harrassment. I just hit them. Remember, I only weighed in at like 90lbs, so no one ever expected me to whack them. I didn't hit them in a nice place either...I could usually stroll off at my leisure after hitting them, while they writhed.
I did hit one guy on the arm (with a stick) and thought I'd broken his arm...but it was just his watch. I felt bad about that, because it apparently meant a lot to him...he went all to pieces.
Amazingly, that still bothers me after all these years. But I did keep asking him to let go of me. And he didn't.

Well my sister left me and my other sister to look after her firstborn while she and Mom went to the store. Well....things happened and neither one of us had changed a diaper before.... and she used cloth diapers. Do you know how embarrassing it is to try changing diapers while the kid is laying there laughing his head off at you?

Speaking of that, I saw the most beautiful property in the local home magazine here.
It had 4 acres (crossed fenced), a CBS barn with 8 stalls, an efficiency adjacent to the barn with every convenience and smack dab in the middle was a 5BR/4BA house with pool! Gorgeous! Tons of fruit trees, etc.
I thought of you when I saw it and said to myself, if I ever win the lotto, I'll get something like for you!

It all depends on the "vibe" I get. I've had folks I don't know hug me and never thought twice, and I've had folks touch my arm and I have to fight the urge to punch them!
Maybe I should invest in some box fans....

When we work in the preschool sunday school...I always have to do the diapers...I guess it's considered more appropriate. But I don't ever notice Steve volunteering! LOL
I do it like an assembly line..."NEXT!!"
To: RMDupree
This is true...I believe that's the way it is with me too. Vibes.
To: RMDupree
I need way more land, way more barn, and way less house!
I am hoping on at least 20 acres, immaculate 20 stall barn and whatever old shack will keep the rain out for me!

Cloth diapers! *GASP!*
I'm a spoiled mom. I wrap up the mess and toss it without a second thought.
My MIL talks about when she had to take the cloth diapers and dump the contents in the toilet and THEN proceed to wash them out, bleach them, rinse them well and hang them out to dry. That was before the "modern diaper service" that would come and trade soiled for fresh.
Give me Luvs or Huggies anyday!
