Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

And I'm the opposite! I don't mind taking Becky (almost 6) to the grocery store (even though she gets the "canihave" disease upon entering the doors), but I absolutely do NOT take Alyson unless I have no other choice.
But my reason is because of germs! How many sick kids have drooled on the cart? And everyone wants to touch a little baby, especially one Alyson's age. I hate being rude to folks, so I avoid putting her in the situation.

The thing about the Hobbit Hole is, you don't hear the things I'm talking about here. You have struggles with your oldest, but I've never heard you really slam him. And you always have something nice to say about him.
It just seems "popular" among women with young children to sit around in support groups (this one is even sanctioned by my church) moaning about the trials of being a mom. Gimme a break! It's a fantastic life!

Notice how it took two men to properly oil and inspect the functioning of the whirlygig. If it would have taken a hand-tool to fix it, I am sure it would have taken at least three men to do it.

Nobody claims it's easy to have and raise kids, but it is a sad sight when the parents are completely disinterested and/or disgusted with the process.
What could possibly be more rewarding than creating a whole 'nother person?! Headaches aside, I love my girls and beam with pride when people compliment them on their behavior.

it is a sad sight when the parents are completely disinterested and/or disgusted with the processExactly...and it doesn't have anything to do with being a stay at home mom or a working mom. I've known some SAHMs that were the absolute WORST when it came to complaining about their kids!
To: RMDupree
Here, it's like this...
"I gave up my own career and my own life to have these children...it's such a sacrifice...poor pitiful me."
God help me, that gets on my nerves. The "victim" thing never flies with me.
To: 2Jedismom
True.. Sometimes stay at home moms are worse because they are bored with their life, so they complain to make up for it! LOL!
I'd love to stay home. I got to do it for a year with Becky and I really miss Alyson. But they are both with my mom, which is the next best thing. And I really couldn't ask for a better boss! He lets me take sick days to stay home with the kids when they aren't feeling well, and... doesn't report it to payroll unless necessary!

Gimme a break! It's a fantastic life! I dunno.... I spent a couple hours with two teenage girls yesterday. One looked like Britney Spears and is quite used to being the cutest thing in the room. Everyone was fawning over her, and I imagine she is nice as long as they continue to do that. The other is also quite pretty but at the moment is into the Goth look and safety pins in her clothes. I turned to my dad's lady friend who is their grandmother and said "at least the safety pins aren't through her eyebrows". She found only a little bit of comfort in that.
I am not sure that parenting is *always* fun from ages 14-21.

Jeepers.... you certainly got a sourpuss responding to it!
To: 2Jedismom
Well, I enjoyed it! Even if the first respondent didn't! LOL!
If parents really grasped the REAL importance of their role, there would be an enormous change in the way kids act these days.
My biggest problem these days is Becky and her sibling rivalry!

Yeah...but he turned out ok...I kidded around with him till he came around.

And everyone wants to touch a little baby, especially one Alyson's age. Doesn't that drive you nuts?!? Both our boys were preemies. People thought we were rude when we said "no you can't hold him." We got especially quick on the draw with "please don't touch his hands..."
To: 2Jedismom
You have struggles with your oldest, but I've never heard you really slam him. And you always have something nice to say about him. Well, he drives us nuts. But he's still a great kid! My frustrations largely come from my wanting life to be better for him.
I have to admit that we do our share of whining about the little one, especially since we "thought we were done." But at the same time, I can't imagine life without him. He keeps us on our toes, and he keeps us laughing.
To: Corin Stormhands; RMDupree
Don't look at me! I don't volunteer to hold no babies!
To: HairOfTheDog
Notice how it took two men to properly oil and inspect the functioning of the whirlygig. Did that have anything to do with the fact there were two types of lubricants sitting on the railing?
To: Corin Stormhands
I see people in the mall, of all places, hauling around newborns! I was thankful I could WALK after having my jedis, but I sure had no inclination to go stroll around in the mall!! With all the cold viruses out there and such, what brain-dead moron would take a brand spanking new baby to the mall???
I want walk up to them and say something...
To: Overtaxed; g'nad
Don't look at me! I don't volunteer to hold no babies!Well, that's one less person I have to worry about hogging g'nad's baby at Entmoot! ;-)
To: Corin Stormhands
LOL! - It may have!
To: HairOfTheDog
I dunno.... I spent a couple hours with two teenage girls yesterday. I'd rather face the Balrog...
